"Eldest Miss?" Wei noticed she had been staring at him for quite a while so he called her.

Wu Xingxie, who was lost in her thoughts came back to reality. She was slightly embarrassed for spacing out in front of him.

"I will return to my chambers now." Wu Xingxie excused herself but as soon as she took a step, her foot got caught in a piece of her long dress. Losing her balance, she planned on using her Qi to restore herself when a pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist.

"Are you alright?" Wei asked with worry. He managed to catch her just before she could fall forward and bump into him.

Wu Xingxie had never been so intimate with a man before, but she wasn't easily flustered and kept an aloofness in her eyes.

"I'm fine. So you can unhand me now."

Wei realized he was still holding onto her so he let go, albeit a bit reluctant. He didn't see her face so he didn't know how she reacted.

From what he heard, the Eldest Miss was a true beauty. Many of the males ogle at her if they saw her but dare not to show it otherwise they could be punished if she caught them. Hence, they avoid looking directly at her but now that she began wearing a veil, they didn't have to anymore. Sadly, she barely left her chambers unless the Master summoned her.

Wei was curious, and wanted to see what sort of face lay beneath the opaque white cloth.
Nevertheless, he respected her privacy so he could not ask why she wore the veil or if she could take it off. In her eyes, he was merely a guard for her family home.

"Farewell, guard Wei." Xingxie bade him goodbye. Wei watched as she retreated to her own place.

For the next few days, Wu Xingxie only focused on the health of her brother. In the morning, she would check on him and watch him drink his medicine then eat breakfast together. After, he would sleep or practice his writing as she read informative books or meditated.

Master Wu sent her the lessons that she needed to learn in advance and at the end of each week, he would check her progress. When she was younger, he had tutors help her but she was already at a point where she could learn by herself as long as she had the resources. Xingxie was good at remembering things. Even details one would not think of.

By the age of 3, he had managed to get her to cultivate. Although she was only 16, Xingxie was at the 6th level or Talented. Unbeknownst to anyone, she was really at Senior but hid her true powers as to not raise any suspicions.

Madam Wu was more than furious after she found out that Suyin was gone. She knew the maid would fail but to think that she never returned made her heart burn with anger. She tried not to worry about trivial matters as she thought of new ways to get Xingxie out of her life.

Either the child died or lived somewhere far away from the Wu manor. Even though she didn't see Xingxie most of the time, the fact that they were living under the same roof still irked her.

As she was busy thinking, one of the concubines said something which caught her attention.

"Why don't you marry the Eldest Miss off? She is already at the age where most young ladies marry."

Madam Wu smirked evilly.

"Yes! Why didn't I think of this? I can marry her off so she'll have to live with her husband's family!"

The concubines smiled along with her. They knew how devious she was so no one would dare to get on her bad side except for Concubine Xi. The other concubines chose her side since she was the legal wife and had a backing. They also feared she would threaten them with their sons' life.

On the other hand, Concubine Xi was childless and did not have a backing. However they couldn't do anything to her.
With the Eldest Miss being close to her, they had to watch how they acted around her.

"I will find the worst husband for her out there." Madam Wu stated before taking a sip of her now cold tea unaware of the fact that Wu Xingxie heard everything they talked about.

"Marry me off? We'll see about that."
Xingxie scoffed as she teleported back to her room. She knew her mother didn't like her but to the point that she could send people to kill her, was she the one who sent the assassins?

Until she was sure who sent them, no way was she going to leave the manor.

The incident at the banquet was just the start of her revenge.

Watch your back, Wu Jishi* because retribution has just begun!

*****
Jishi* (吉士)- A good or virtuous person.
(Which is ironic because Madam Wu is not virtuous at all)
