52. The Holiday Cheer

He trudges through the knee-deep snow from his sled to the lone cabin nestled in the middle of the Winter Woods. Each step forward tests his already sore muscles, especially in his legs and shoulders.

And the mocking memories of holidays past hang heavily over his exhausted frame.

He reaches the wooden step leading to the front door just as the moon rises above the line of trees.

When the door shuts behind him, he shuffles into the living room, not bothering to turn on the light. But when he looks around his home, he sees a twinkling orb hovering near the window. Curious, he walks toward it and cups it in his calloused hands.

Contained within is a single message conveyed with so much love that it ignites the long-forgotten fireplace.
