Sometimes out of nowhere, a sharp pain hits my chest. It feels as if a hand is reaching through my sternum and squeezing whatever it can grab just for a second. The release is quick and crisp.
Clench. Release. Clench. Release. The process repeats a few more times. Other than this, nothing is wrong. My breathing is normal. My heart rate is steady. Even my thoughts aren't particularly grim.
It's becoming less frequent. But when it does happen, the ache is more intense and its shadow lingers longer.
Sometimes I can feel the shadow reaching into my mind.
