69. Flying

The leaves brush against my leg as I will myself to go higher.

"You having some trouble there?" comes a teasing voice from somewhere in my peripherals.

"I'm just out of practice, DJ," I say into the wind to make sure he hears it. "It's been awhile."

I rise above the treetops and fall in next to him.

"There's been an influx of new flyers in our region but none here," he says, with a hint of seriousness.

"Is that why we were called?"

"Yeah."

I look down at the lights of densely packed buildings and streets. We have to find a soul to awaken here.

But if we don't, what then?
