The penny slips out of a pocket and gets stuck between the car seat and the door.
When the driver steps out, it falls out onto the loose gravel in the parking lot. There, it lies under the hot sun, the direct rays of which heat it to an uncomfortable degree.
A shadow brings refreshing shade. Cold fingers pick it up.
"You're a lucky penny, aren't you?" In her palm, where her skin touches the small coin, she feels a light tingle.
She chuckles. "Well, then. I'm going to need you to come with me, since I'm going to need all the luck I can get this year."
