The darkness above sways with the gentle current of the night.
With a thrust of her tail, she breaches the surface. The cold air stings her skin, but the prickles are refreshing. She treads harder to push more of her body above the water.
Tilting her face to the sleeping sky, she lets the air revitalize her dormant nostrils. The air filtered through her gills is efficient, but up here, she could smell the life around her with every breath.
She lies on her back, the soft waves forming a comfortable bedding. Under the glow of the moon, she counts the orbs dotting the distant worlds. Her tail swishes in a gentle rhythm, its scales as luminescent as the twinkling lights above.
