Her face hits the bar counter with a thunk, her hair splaying around her like exhausted tentacles. The bartender raises an eyebrow but continues his cleaning routine for the night.

The door swings open. When she turns her head to eye the last minute straggler, she sits up to take in the sight before her.

His hand frozen in place with the rag, the bartender begins to speak when the man gives him a look that conveys his message clearly. He takes a seat one chair away from the woman.

After a quick clink of their glasses, the bartender, the tired woman, and the hot dog man down their first shot of the new year.
