Shawn's POV

"We should do something this weekend," I say, leaning over the side of the ledge on the balcony of the stadium. The wind whips me in the face as I look out at the buzzing city lights at night, every piece of light illuminating the darkness.

"We should," She agrees. "I feel like we haven't in a while."

She looks out from the balcony, her head leaning on my shoulder.
"What about we go to the Chinese Palace?" She asks, her voice tired.

I roll my eyes. "Yeah, sure, Y/N, the Chinese Palace. Where we go like every day. Can't beat the Chinese Palace. C'mon, let's do something fun! We could go to a club or something?" I suggest off the top of my head. Her nose crinkles.

"No clubs, please," She laughs.

"Uhm. . . I don't know. Maybe we could get out of town."

"And do what, exactly?"

We were standing face to face now.

"I don't know! Camping, maybe?"

"Oh god please no! No camping!" She basically screams.

"You do realize that you trying to keep your distance from me in no way less-"

"Gus, I'm a grenade!"

I suddenly lose it and start laughing my head off.

"What are we," I mumble, pulling her tightly to my chest again and resting my chin on her head. We sigh in unison, still laughing.

"Go camping with me, Y/N. I'll keep you safe from anything that tries to hurt you. I promise."

There was a long pause before she finally agrees.

On the day we were leaving it was hard to believe I'd really convinced her to come. For as long as I've known her, Y/N has always had a certain distaste for the outdoors. We always go places, but this would be our first camping trip together.

Dad used to take me when I was little, so I know all the good trails and campsites. I take her to the one he used to take me to, and we read to each other for a while under the trees while eating pixie stix, until it started to get dark, and I decided to put up the tent.

It was the kind that you had to put all the wires in the little slots in order for it not to fall over, and there were no written instructions, only pictures, so I struggled for quite some time while Y/N sat back and watched me, laughing.

After it started to get really dark, I was beginning to figure it out, so Y/N walked off to gather some logs or twigs we could use to make a fire.

When she returned, I had the tent pretty much set up, with sleeping bags inside it.

I walked across the leaves and put some little rocks into a circle, throwing dry leaves in the middle to make a pit. Y/N tosses in the logs and I pour some kerosene over it, lighting one of the leaves with my lighter.

When the flames grew, I sat on a nearby rock and Y/N scooted in next to me, and I pulled out my guitar.
"Perfect," She coos, clapping her hands as I tune it.

I smile at her and kiss her forehead, blushing like I always do.

"This one goes out to the love of my life," I say to the invisible audience, "Who came out into the wilderness for my sake."

Y/N smiles and caresses my shoulder with her fingers.
I start playing gently, strumming each chord after the other as I gaze into the eyes of the fire before us, warming me.

Her eyes reflected off of the embers, lighting them up like the stars. I sing to her until she gets really tired, then I put my guitar back into its case and put out the fire.

I carry her into the tent and lay her on top of my sleeping bag, curling up next to her and wrapping my arms tightly around her waist and holding her close.
