Chapter 50 - Think Fast

MacKenzie's POV

Barry speeds into the workroom where Caitlin, Cisco, and I are

"Hey." Barry says, skidding to a stop."Did you guys send an alert?"

"We did." Caitlin says. "We think we've figured out how to stop DeVoe and save the hostages."

"What... what is it?" Barry asks

"Us." Caitlin says

"You bring us into Flash Time with you." Cisco says

"Look guys, that's great, you know, you want to help, but we can't split up in A. R. G. U. S. if I'm holding onto you the whole time." Barry says

"Well, survey says... you don't have to." Cisco says, pulling the whiteboard with all of our calculations and stuff

"Have you guys been researching me?" Barry asks

"At first we thought you were vibrating our molecules when we were in Flash Time, but that didn't explain why we were conscious." Caitlin says

"Which gave us this brain blast. When you run, you don't just tap into the Speed Force. You generate Speed Force around you." Cisco says

"It's like you're creating lightning to protect you from the friction, like an aura." Caitlin says

"So when I bring you into Flash Time I'm actually extending my Speed Force aura to you." Barry says

"And what if physical touch just focuses those powers?" Caitlin suggests
"I could let go." Barry says. "Share my speed."

"We'd only be able to last a few moments before we burnt out." Caitlin says. "Like 55 milliseconds of real time."

"And thanks to relativity, that gives us just enough time to rescue the hostages while you chase DeVoe down the rabbit hole." Cisco says

"Guys, I mean you know everything looks normal to me when I'm in Flash Time, but it took me months to learn how to operate like that." Barry says

"Exactly." Cisco says. "That's what makes you the perfect candidate for training. Train us."

"I know it's a leap, Barry, but we're running out of time and I just think it might work." Caitlin says

"I...I don't know if I want Mack in there..." Barry says to Caitlin and Cisco more than to me

"We figured." I speak up. "Which is why I'll be monitoring and backup in case it's needed."

Barry nods

In the speedlab...

Barry, Cisco, and Caitlin are all in STAR Labs sweats and hoodies for training

Barry stands in the middle of the two

I stand with my back against the wall next to them with a timer

"Ready?" Caitlin asks. The two boys nod. She looks at me. "One second on the clock."

I grab my timer and press

"Go." I say as the timer starts

Next thing I know, Cisco is on the ground and my timer goes out

"You okay?" Barry asks him

"Yep." Cisco groans from the ground. He stands up with Barry's help. "Yep. My leg's just asleep, but I'm gonna get this. I'm telling you."

"Okay." Barry says

Cisco starts walking around to get the blood flowing in his leg

Caitlin's phone rings

"It's Joe and Cecile." Caitlin tells Barry. "Do you think I can spare a minute?"
