Back to the Beginning (Naruto Fanfic)

Chapter 6

It's been 2 weeks since he brought Naruto to the Hospital. Minato was starting to get worried. At first his wounds weren't healing at all. They brought in the best medical ninja they could think of. Tsunade, one of the three legendary Sannin of the Leaf. Sure, she was really quick tempered, but she was the best. She told Minato not to worry. The loss of chakra most likely slowed his healing process but he was steadily getting better.

Despite having a schedule for his team to follow, Minato spent pretty much all of his free time at the hospital. I just can't get him out of my mind. Minato was sitting by the side of the bed like he always did, telling stories of the missions he had been on, the bell test he did with his students, and anything else he could think of. He was currently telling the story about how he met his lovely yet terrifying wife Kushina. He couldn't help but chuckle. "You know, she has the most long and beautiful red hair. Her eyes are as violet as the flower, and her smile can light up any room." Minato smiled to himself as he thought about the lovely image of Kushina. He couldn't wait for her to get back from her mission so that he could see her again.

Naruto was laying on his back in his mindscape with Kurama which he had made into a peaceful meadow long ago. It was about the only peaceful place he had left.

"Naruto, you know you are going to have to wake up at some point." Kurama was trying to be strict, but he knew what Naruto was feeling better than anyone else.

"I know Kura, it's just that...well...you know as well as I do that as soon as I wake up they'll want to see my memories...I just don't think I could handle that, ya know." Naruto's voice was filled with anxiety as he thought of all the things that could happen.

"Naruto, your father has spent nearly every day by your bed waiting for you to wake up. We came back to change the future! We can't do that from inside your head!" Kurama was getting frustrated now. Naruto was almost completely healed, he was just complaining now, but Kurama knew something that would wake him up real quick. "You know..."

"Oh don't start with that tone Kurama! I'm not in the mood to play your stupid games."

"Ah, come on! You don't even know what I was going to say!" Kurama was full-on pouting now. "WAIT! WHAT DO YOU MEAN STUPID?!"

"Dammit Kurama, stop yelling! I didn't mean you're stupid, ya know!"

"Are you going to let me finish now?!"

"Fine...what were you going to tell me?"

"Well, I was going to say that Minato is talking about your mom. You better wake up if you want to hear what he is saying." Kurama's voice was so mocking that all Naruto could do was shake his head.

"You are one smart-ass fox ya know that..." All Naruto could do was sigh. He knew he had lost. "Fine. You win." Naruto let himself fade from his mindscape and into the real world.

When he started hearing things around him again the first thing he heard was his dad saying how much he loved his mom's red hair and her beautiful eyes. Naruto let a small smile brighten his face. Maybe things would be okay after all.

"That's super cheesy, ya know." Naruto couldn't help but say something sarcastic to break the awkward silence, and he knew he had to alert 'Minato' that he was awake.

Minato was so caught off guard that he actually jumped a little at the voice coming from the bed. "You're awake! Oh thank Kami, I thought you were going to sleep forever!" Instinctively he got off the chair and hugged the teenager who was still sealed to the hospital bed. It wasn't until he felt the boy stiffen that he realized what he did. "Oh, I am so sorry! I don't know why I did that, I guess I was just happy to see you awake! Wait, did you say my story was cheesy?! You were listening to that?!" Now he was really embarrassed.
