Spencer had the biggest smile on his face as the elevator door opened to the BAU. He was greeted by all the team beaming back at him.

"Welcome back Reid," they cheered.

His smile grew more as he was welcomed by his friends, making his cheeks hurt.

"Wow Reid, you are glowing. Maybe Boston was good for you," Penelope hugged him for the fifteenth time.

"You're back just in time Reid, we just got a case," Hotch frowned at his phone, heading for the round table.

The team followed. David and Emily patted Spencer on the back with grins plastered on their faces. JJ squeezed Spencer's arms. Derek ruffled Spencer's hair. Penelope latched onto Spencer's arm, shepherding through the bullpen and chatting away. Spencer's phone buzzed in his pocket. He dropped his bag on his desk as the walked past it and allowed Penelope to pull him along until they reached the conference room. Penelope dropped his arm and went in first. Spencer took this opportunity to take his phone out of his pocket as he settled in his seat at the table.

Good morning Spencer. I hope you have a great first day back. Good luck x G

Warmth flooded his heart. A smile crept back onto his face.

Thank you. Looks like it's going to be a busy day x S

"What are you smiling at?" Derek leaned over trying to look at Spencer's phone. Spencer quickly slipped his phone back into his pocket.

"Nothing."

Derek's eyes narrowed, but Hotch interrupted his suspicion.

They run through the case and before they know it, they are on the jet flying to Arizona.

"This is going to be a long day. Get some rest before we land," Hotch suggested.

Derek took this opportunity to grill Spencer. "So, tell us all about Boston, pretty boy."

"Boston is the capital of Massachusetts and is the 21st most populous city in this the United States. It covers 48.4 square miles with an estimate population of 692,600..."

"No what I meant, kid." Derek shook his head. While JJ, David and Emily laughed.

"Morgan I was teaching. I spent my time lecturing, tutoring and grading papers."

"So, you didn't get to see much of Boston?" Emily asked.

"Nope, just split my time between the university and my apartment."

"Spence, I know you love to read, but please tell me that you didn't exhaust the university library by spending all your time reading." JJ nudged him.

"No, I didn't just read the entire time. I watched some movies and TV. I attempted cooking and baking. We made these amazing macrons. Oh, and in the UK, they have these little biscuit things called Jaffa Cakes. It's huge debate about whether they are cakes or biscuits, but we made homemade versions of those and they were incredible..."

"We..." Emily, Derek and JJ chorused.

Spencer stuttered. "Huh?"

"You said 'we'." JJ queried.

"Did I? I meant I."

Derek shook his head disapprovingly at him. Spencer avoided his eyes and decided to find the cover his is book very interesting. He slyly slipped his phone out of his pocket and slipped it inside the book he now held open.

He pretended to read but in reality, opened up the latest message from Gia.

GIA:

They're keeping you busy. Keeps you out of trouble.

Quick question...

If I wanted to set up an education lab for aspiring STEM students at CalTech, who would you recommend I contact?

SPENCER:

That they are.

Trouble? What do you mean?

Try Dr Mariam Davis.

How's MIT?

GIA:

Don't play that game

I knew you were trouble when you walked in

Okay thanks I'll try her.

It's been quite illuminating.

SPENCER:

Are you quoting Taylor Swift?

Uh oh? That doesn't sound promising.

GIA:

Maybe 😝

Nothing that can't be sorted out.

Just a few bumps in the road.

SPENCER:

Let me know if I can do anything to help

GIA:

You already have.

I'm heading to the lab now.

Have a great day.

SPECNER:

Same to you.

Spencer looks up from his phone and sees Emily staring at him.

"You have been on that one page for a very long time."

"I can't focus," he declared. "I think I need coffee. Do you want some?"

Emily shook her head and Spencer quickly headed to the coffee machine to get away from the prying eyes.
