The Final 2 Weeks

My grandmother Jane Mavelly spent the final two weeks of her life at a very high quality facility in Rochester Arkansas which is the town I lived in at the time. I can't express how grateful I am to the staff at this nursing home, they were truly the most caring and giving people I have come across and literally did the best they could to help ease her pain her final days. For two weeks I would arrive at Illuminated Hearts in the early morning to assist my grandmother with eating and drinking, she had lost the ability to do so herself. Then there was an activity planned mid-morning which even though she couldn't really engage we still tried between myself and the activity director. If she didn't have an activity to engage in that she was at least a little cable of I would leave to get food and return to feed her at lunch time. Or I stayed at the facility in my grandmother's room or in the courtyard if she wanted to sleep. Fortunate for me the facility was accepting of me vaping in the courtyard which allowed me to be comfortable in the hours I spent there with my grandmother, it's not something I had to hide.

On April 1st 2023, my grandmother Jane Mavelly took her last and final breath. My sister, sister-inlaw, and myself went to Illuminated Hearts early in the morning. We found out that granny had aspirated the previous night and when we went into her room she was in the bed with a fluid filled breathing sound. The main director Amanda took my sister aside and informed her that today was almost certainly going to be her last day alive which my sister then told me. I had somewhat already accepted it I mean this was a 4 year battle where she slowly declined but still there was a part of me that thought she could go on living for several more years. I never even contemplated her passing because similar to my mother when she didn't tell us she had 6 months left to live I never thought that was accurate but I was proven wrong once again
