"Take him"
I hand him over and he cries pouting out his little lip, he had got so big over the last few days. His big eyes watered as he watched me and my heart broke
"Take him and I'll cook the pancakes"
I smile and take him back and his pouty little lip turns into a smile making me laugh
"You little faker! You just wanted me back isn't that right? You're too damn cute for your own good. I love you baby. Yes I do"
I spend the next 10 minutes talking baby talk with my baby as Ashley and Mark cook the pancakes for us. When they are done my stomach rumbles as I pour myself a cup of coffee and set the baby in his bed urging him to have a nap. He settles straight away pulling his fist to his mouth, mark watches me in amazement
"Nomatter what I did I couldn't get him to settle. But he listens to you, I've never met anyone or anything that's immune to our powers before"
I frown and shake my head
"He's not immune, he listens to me all the time"
"Could have fooled us, we tried for hours"
I look at my sleeping baby and shrug smiling. Scott comes through the door on the phone kissing Jax and then me as we all take our seats at the table
"Cool, see you tonight bye"
We all look at him and he shrugs
"Looks like we are having guests for dinner, Ailm, Isla and the boys are coming over to talk about the rogue camp"
I smile counting the people in my head, we had 12 seats at the table so it would be perfect for a dinner party
"I can use the bbq to cook the steaks like dad does"
I groan, my mouth salivates at just the thought of marks fathers steaks
"Hell yes! I'll make everything else but definitely, you can teach them both to cook them to"
I point to the boys and they look surprised
"But you always cook?"
Scott says a little disappointed, I shrug
"I know but every person should be able to cook the perfect steak. You never know when you might need to, plus what happens when I'm too big to cook. I ain't eating that crappy canteen food?"
Ashley jumps gasping, her face lights up and she starts to bang the table
"I knew you smelled different! You're having a baby. Oh my gosh Carter's going to get his queen I'm so excited for you guys"
"Be excited for you too, you're just as much a part of this family as Carter is. Even if you are a snarky teenage bitch"
Her face falls at Scott's sweet words, he hasn't even noticed how much that means to her. Her chin starts to wobble so I reach over and take her hand
"It's true you know, the moment you walked over that border you became ours too"
Her eyes go glassy and she smiles squeezing my hand
"Well I'm so excited for us then, so will you be coming to Bora Bora with us"
I shake my head
"No, I'm staying to fight. But don't worry this stomach is very well protected"
Scott and Jax swallow hard looking at each other, I try to get into their heads but they have me blocked out. I growl making them jump
"Don't do that! I have a right to know what your talking about considering it's my body"
Scott sighs, dropping his fork and glaring at jaxon. Jaxon offers me a small smile as Scott gets up and walks out.
"He doesn't want you to fight, he doesn't think we should let you but I told him there will be no stopping you unless you choose to. He's just worried sick so please don't fight"
My mood instantly plummets and we eat the rest of our meal in silence. When we are done I follow Scott outside, he's on the deckchair smoking so I go to him sitting on his knee. He puts his head in the crook of my neck taking a deep sniff.
"You know from the moment I met you all I've ever wanted to do is protect you, keep you from any pain. Having you fight while pregnant it just feels like I'm not doing my job"
I curl my body around him, he places his hand on my stomach and he kisses my neck sucking on my skin, I giggle jumping as his prickly face tickles me.
"I'm sorry you feel that way but you realise I need to do this, I'll stay out of the action as much as I possibly can but I need to help save those girls. I feel like I owe it to them. Me being here drove their families away and caused them to get captured and I can't have that on my conscious"
He groans letting his head fall back so he's looking at the roof
"That's not on you, that's on their parents for leaving"
"I know that Scott but it's not the girls fault. It wasn't their choice to leave and to be the Luna I want to be I need to right that wrong for the parents who got everything about me wrong, prove to them that I will rise above their hate and look after the kids they failed so badly"
We sit in silence for another while until I hear the baby cry, I go to get up but he stops me grabbing my face
"You stay out of the action and you stay on fire the entire time. Promise me baby please?"
I smile and kiss him gently as Jax bursts through the door with a ball of fire in his hand
"I promise now let me go sort this out"
I get up as Jax rocks the screaming flaming baby side to side
"Carter you need to put your fire out for daddy, please do it for daddy"
I smirk taking him, his little pouty face looks at me, I close my eyes and see what he's feeling.
Danger. He feels like he's in danger. I concentrate harder and delve deeper. He knows I'll protect him no matter what, he knows I'd go to great lengths to keep him safe.
The realisation makes me cry, he's so small yet he's already worried about being hurt. I let him know that his daddy would do anything to save him too. That he can relax with them as well. When I opened my eyes the crying had stopped and his fire had died out. Scott moved fast pulling his T-shirt over my head because Carter's flames had burned through my clothes. I kiss his gummy grinning cheek and pass him back to jaxon. He sighs in relief as I pull on Scott's shirt
"He thinks he's in danger, his birth mother must have it ingrained in him somehow, he knows now that not only I would do anything to keep him safe but so would his daddies so I think that should help, I better get dressed before our guests arrive"
I run inside as the tears start to fall, my heart hurts at the reality that my baby was so terrified he burst into flames because I wasn't there. How will I ever leave him or send him away? I decided to ring mum, if anyone would know what to do it would be her. I pull out comfortable leggings and a hoodie then go to my hammock and ring my mum. She answered immediately and I burst into tears.
"Hey hey hey what is it?"
I tell mum everything, from not wanting to leave my baby to him bursting into flames in fear.
"He can't get on a plane, baby. if he ignites on a plane he will blow it up. No we are going to come to you, we can take him and the kids to Baylees island. We will have Ardens guards, baylee and caden come to. Then if he ignites they will be able to hold him. Now dry those tears he will only be a few miles down the road so you can get this over and done with as fast as possible and have your boy back in your arms in minutes ok?"
My fear instantly vanishes as my mum talks me off the ledge and I feel so much better. I wipe my tears and pull on my big girl pants. I say goodbye to my mother and throw on a pair of converse and go back down the stairs to start cooking. When I arrive mark and Ashley are already busy in the kitchen working together to make seasoning for the steaks, I join them making the salads and fries and getting everything prepared to cook, I put it all in the fridge until the guys arrive and I join Jax and Scott on the couch as they play with maddie. I lay down and rest my eyes and then I remember about contraception so I sit up
"Ashley I need your help come with me please"
I keep my walls firmly up so Scott can't snoop in my head
"Where are you going?"
"Hospital, going to pick up prenatal vitamins"
He nods as I kiss them both on the cheek and wave for Ashley to follow me, we jump into my car and I sigh in relief
"I'm terrified of what he will do when he finds out"
"He hasn't noticed so maybe he won't?"
She bites her lip nervously as I take of in the direction of the hospital
"Maybe not but other people might"
"Why does he care about me so much anyway?"
I raise my eyebrows in surprise
"Because you're ours, you not only saved yourself and our son but you found us, trusted us, and in turn saved all the girls who are suffering. Plus he grew up with no family and he will never allow you to grow up like that so just let him do the over protective parent thing"
She chuckles shaking her head
"The first thing my parents ever did thinking about me was saving me from those savages, before that they were miserable bastards who thought of no one but themselves. I met you and a few days later you have done more for me than they ever did. You know they never bought me new clothes? I had to work and earn my own money to buy clothes and they would take off for days at a time with no food in the house or no money to buy any. If it wasn't for my brother I would have starved. So yes I'll let him play the overprotective parent Because in a few short days he's done more for me then they ever did"
I feel tears prick at my eyes again and I groan
"Damn I'm emotional as hell"
I wipe the tear from my cheek and swallow the lump in my throat then continue
"Well what about moving? I will support what you want to do but Scott is determined to have you stay with us?"
She sags against her chair shrugging
"What If I do half and half? Weekends here and weeks there or holidays here and school year there? I don't know I'm nervous about leaving but I'm terrified of leaving mark"
I grab her hand and squeeze it
"One thing I found out very quickly was that our mate becomes our home. You will be happy where your mate is just like I am. You will be Luna some day and you have no other choice but to move there eventually so maybe gradually getting used to it is a good thing. Plus you will have a true connection to the pack if you join before you become Luna. We will always be here, you can always come home and you will always have a room in our house. Nomatter what we have got you and I'm going to be here for you Nomatter what"
I smile at her then pull up at the hospital, pulling into the alpha spot and jumping out. She follows me nervously and I look back at her
"What is it?"
"My brother is going to know I had sex"
I snort pulling her in for a side hug and walking her into the clinic just as her brother walks out the door. He pauses and sniffs the air as we walk in and he growls, she freezes pulling behind me, I put my hand up and point to the room without saying a word, his jaw ticks as he walks in and I follow him. As we step inside he slams the door
"She has been in your care for less than a week and she's having sex! What the fuck!! Who is he?"
"Her mate! Now talk to me like that again and I'll put you on your damn ass now calm down before I make you"
I growl stepping in between him and her, he swallows loudly taking a step back but saying nothing
"Now, she found her mate and as you know it's difficult to hold back, Iv brought her here for contraception because after we rescue the rest of the girls at the new school year she will be moving to her new pack with her mate where she will become Luna so remember that when you talk to her and her mate who is my cousin and is an active primordial do you understand?"
He sags against the cupboard behind him holding the chart in his hand. He looks at her sadly
"You're leaving huh? Were you going to tell me?"
She steps forward
"Actually yes I was, but Lucy went into heat and I was busy helping with the baby so I was going to invite you to dinner so you could meet him"
I smile as she stands up tall and proud, her voice strong and unwavering.
"When do you finish your shift?"
"I am finished"
He answers me so I smile
"Good, your coming for dinner to meet the family, although Scott does not know they did the deed and please don't tell him because alpha or not, family be damned he will try to strangle him and he won't ever let her leave"
He frowns Turning around and going through some cupboards
"Why does he care so much?"
"Because she is family now. She always will be and he takes his parental responsibilities very seriously"
When he turns back around with a tray he points to the chair with a grin on his face
"I'm glad, sit down and let me get this in your arm"
She frowns as he pulls out a needle and sticks it in her arm, she whimpers and he chuckles
"Big baby"
He whispers she bares her teeth at him and growls but she soon shuts up when he pulls out an even bigger needle
"You didn't tell me you were going to torture me, dammmmmnnnnnn"
She squeaks as he stuffs it in her arm and I swear she turns green in shock, tears brim her eyes
"You didn't even let the numbing take effect you asshole"
She shouts at him, he laughs pulling the needle out
"Well that will teach you to have sex when your underage"
She mutters something under her breath as he puts a plaster on her arm. He laughs harder, shaking his head then turns to me.
"Congratulations, get on the bed I'll do a scan while we are here"
My eyes nearly pop out of my head and I hop on the bed excitedly pulling my jumper up. Ashley laughs coming to my side, hopping on the spot excitedly. He pulls the machine over and squirts cold gel on my belly, Ashley takes out her phone and starts to take photos making me chuckle as he runs the machine over my stomach and soon he stops pushing it in a little furthers Ashley looks at the screen taking photos
"It looks like a nut"
I chuckle looking at it

"Cool! I'm definitely going to be your doctor"
I chuckle as he finishes my scan then hands me tons of vitamins.
"If it's going—"

I correct him
"Now how would you know it's a girl?"
He answers with his eyebrows in the air, I chuckle
"Because Carter will be her mate and he will be Lycan king and her his queen. It's already been foretold. Together they will rule side by side with the alpha queen and her king, they will unite Lycan from all over and bring them out of hiding. They will save the Lycans so it's a girl trust me Ohh and that's a secret so don't tell it"
I touch him so he can't tell even if he wanted to, he lifts his jaw off the floor and recovers
"Ok then. If she is going to grow so fast you will need extra vitamins and lots of food, rest and water. Don't take to much coffee because it will dehydrate you but you can have some coffee"
I bite my lip trying to avoid thoughts of smoking.
"Ok, we better get home and finish prepping dinner, see you and your mate soon?"
"Hang on, you cook?"
He asks Ashley
"Yes lucy has been teaching me and so has mark he loves to cook"
I swear I nearly laugh as she swoons just saying his name. Conor screws up his face and fake barfs making me laugh
"Come on, we have to get home remember don't tell about them doing the dirty"
"I wish everyone would stop talking about my sex life"
I snort and shake my head
"Oh please, a few days ago I had an army of men outside my house listening to me have sex while others tried to sneak in and have sex. You have it easy"
