••Prologue••

||The Birth||

The heat was coarse, and the wind was dry. Zadock West, a bulky grey-haired man, and his beloved, Zelda West, a fragile wrinkly-faced woman, rushed from the hospital to the Conclave on an island the other side of the territory. The Conclave, a five-storey modern concrete building with another five levels of underground basement, was the official working quarters for the royal family.

The two paid little attention to their surroundings, focused on a single task in hand: they were to deliver a message to the Royal Beta, Greyson. The message could've been mind-linked, but the family knew how the Royal Beta, their son, would react if he heard the news through the link. The second the two step inside the Conclave, they're met with familiar faces buzzing around working. They pushed past the people that crowded the minimally decorated lounge to the private elevator that had restricted access to the fourth and fifth floors above ground, and the three lowest levels of the basement. The couple went up in the elevator to the fourth floor to their son, Greyson, the Royal Beta of the Supernatural realm.

As soon as the elevator door opened to the fourth floor, the couple heard the tapping of feet, fast pen clicking and the flipping of paper from inside the conference room.

In his guts, Greyson could feel something was off.

His heart sank when he smelled his parents on the fourth floor. No one interrupts the Beta in his office unless it's an emergency. Before his parents could knock on the door, Greyson swung it open to look into the panicked eyes of his parents.

The words leave his mouth before his parents can explain their unexpected arrival: "Tell me what's wrong. It's her, isn't it? I've been trying to mind-link her, but she blocked me thirty minutes ago. I knew I shouldn't have left her side when she forced me to leave, mom. Where is she? Don't just stand there. Tell me already." Greyson looks back and forth between the two in front of him.

His mother lets out a laugh and notes the anxiety their son is wrapped up in.

"Son, breath. You need to come with us; it's time," Zadock says cautiously.

"Where is she?" Greyson's voice booms, "Now!"

"She is fine, Grey. I promise you," Zelda breathes out, "She's asking for you. The doctor said it'll be any minute now, so you need to come with us."

"How did I not feel anything? It should've hurt me. Why did it not? Did she...? No, not possible. Mum did she take a tonic in this condition?" Greyson whispers, denying that Jenna could endanger herself in this delicate situation.

"Son, she said she didn't want you to worry! You need to understand," his mother tries to rationalise Jenna's actions to him.

"We didn't know how it'll affect her mother, yet you let her be this reckless!" Greyson clenches his fists, cheeks burning red, "It was that lowlife bitch—I apologize, that witch—you kept bragging about, wasn't it? She must've manipulated her into drinking it. You know that bitch has a crazy obsession with what is mine!"

"She would not hurt her; she cares for her. You know it!" Zelda tries to get through to her son.

Zadock huffs beside her. He knows his wife's words will only lead to another argument. "We don't have much time. We need to leave. You don't want to miss this, son."

Greyson trembled, "Do not tell me what to do. I would've never left her If she... God! She drives me nuts. Let's get on with it. I will punish, I meant deal with her once she's out of the hospital."
