Let Me Love You

Tension

Bucky's POV

I wake up around 7:30 and am surprised that Kate hasn't come to wake me up yet. I quickly get ready for our jog and make my way to her room.

"Kate?" I ask, knocking on the door. When I don't receive an answer, I open the door to find her and Steve cuddling on her bed. The sound of the door must wake her up because she turns and looks at me.

"Good morning Buck." She smiles.

"It's almost 8 o'clock." I say, her eyes widen.

"Oh my gosh, okay give me like 5 minutes." She says, jumping out of bed to get ready.

"Kate?" Steve groans at the emptiness behind him.

She runs into the bathroom and quickly changes into a pair of leggings and a sports bra.

"Where are you going?" Steve pouts, sitting up as he looks at her.

"I'll be back later, Bucky and I are going for a jog." She says to Steve, giving him a quick kiss. I feel my chest tighten but play it off, giving Steve a smirk as he smiles. Kate walks over to me and we make our way to the elevator.

Kate's POV

"Where exactly are we going?" Bucky asks as we're jogging.

"Remember that warehouse I went to weeks ago?" I ask, he nods. "I want to see if I'm strong enough to use my powers again." I explain.

After a while longer of jogging, we arrive at the abandoned warehouse and make our way inside. Bucky takes a seat on some of the rubble and watches as I stand in a space to test my powers. I try again and again to get even a slight glow to appear in my hands but nothing seems to work.

"Everything alright, doll?" I hear Bucky ask from behind me.

"Yeah.." I lie. "Just tired, maybe that's why nothing's happening. Let's start heading back."

Bucky nods and leads me out of the building before we begin jogging back.

We walk into the living room to find everyone hanging out and I immediately look for Tony. I spot him sitting at the bar and make my way over to him.

"Hey." I smile, sitting beside him.

"Hi Kitten." He smiles.

"Can we talk?" I ask, he nods. I grab his hand and lead him to an empty room.

"By talk did you mean hook up?" He smirks, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"No." I stifle a laugh. "This is serious." I wrap my arms around his shoulders. "What exactly did you guys have to do to cure me?" I ask.

"It wasn't easy, but we found a way to extract the virus from your system." He explain, his lips grazing my neck as he speaks, sending chills down my spine. "Why?"

"So.. If you extracted the virus, you got rid of my powers too then?" I ask. He pulls away from me and looks into my eyes.

"Well, yeah. The virus is what gave you your powers." He says. "But now you're back to your normal self, and alive."

I sigh, looking down as I pull away from him. "Now I'll never be helpful." I mumble.

"Hey, who said you're not helpful?" He lifts my chin. "If it really bothers you that much, I'll make you a suit like mine." He caresses my cheek and smiles at me.

"No.. It's okay." I force a small smile. "Thank you though." I hug him tightly.

Steve's POV

"Hey Buck!" I smile as he joins us for lunch. "Where's Kate?"

He looks around with confusion on his face. "She was right behind me."

I look around and feel my heart drop as I notice that Tony is missing too. We continue eating and the two of them walk in once we're finished.

"Where were you two?" I ask from my seat, making everyone turn to look at them.

"We were talking." Tony says, making me roll my eyes.

There's silence in the room as the tension builds between the two of us.

"Alright, so, who's ready for training?" Natasha speaks up.

"I think I'll pass today. I'm already exhausted." Kate says.

The rest of the team makes their way to the elevator and I hang behind for a moment.

"Hey, you alright?" I ask, sitting beside Kate on the couch as she flips through the channels on the tv.

"Yeah, why?" She asks, her eyes glued to the television.

"You're always ready to train. You train like 100 times a day." I chuckle.

"I'm just tired today." She says and I can tell that she's lying.

"Kate." I say sternly and she turns to look at me.

She sighs before speaking again. "I um.. I haven't been able to use my powers. I assumed it was because I was still recovering but I asked Tony about it.. He said that to get rid of the virus they had to extract it, meaning that they got rid of my powers with it."

My eyes widen at the news. "So you're.. Normal?" She nods as she looks down. "So I don't have to worry about you burning me as a joke anymore." I tease.

"I could still find ways to do that." She laughs. "I just wish I could still be useful to the team." She presses her lips together.

"You're useful in so many ways." I say. "You might not be able to shoot fire anymore but you're still strong and unbelievably smart. We could use some normal on this team to balance out the crazy."

She smiles up at me and I smile back. I catch her glancing down at my lips and feel myself smirk. I gently push her down on the couch and press my lips to hers.
