ARICSON WAS stroking her hair as she talked while the other grasped her dainty fingers. It appeared so small compared to his. The contrast was making his heart bloom into protectiveness that he was gradually becoming aware of.

He peered at her while her eyes were unfocused. It was tinged with redness together with her nose and cheeks. Her teeth dented on her lips while she sniffled, looking delicate and fragile.

The last time she was like this was their first talk at the library, ever since then, he admired her strength in doing her own thing. However, watching her now, she became a shell of herself once again.

"The what-ifs were always there. What if I stayed and just argued with my siblings? What if I did not go with Dad? What if I did not see the sword? Many things are running through my head, Aricson, but I just wished to see my family once again."

Her voice was laced with remorse and it pained him. It was clear she was regretting being here in his world.

"I wish to return, Aricson. I want my normal life back," Elise whispered as fresh tears trailed down her jaw.

He carefully wiped it away. Her eyes were puffed and so was her nose but his gaze lingered on her lips.

His face lowered as the back of his mind reminded himself to stop but after hearing that she wanted to return, sudden desperation aroused and made him want her to stay.

It contradicted everything he advised himself yet he had fallen into the inducement of her lips that was reddened from her bites. He did the most improper thing to do in this situation, brainwashing himself that it was his way to soothe her no matter how strange it was.

He cupped her chin and her soft lips were against his. It was fleeting but the touch dawdled and would forever be engraved on his mind. Without thinking straight, he kissed her again. This time, he tilted her head, trying to deepen the kiss.

Her tongue twisted with his, fanning the fire rise in his body. He was thankful she was responding. Her arms drew him close while his fingers roamed her back.

He had warned himself earlier and looked at what he ended up with. She was tangled in his arms as they were both breathless from their kiss. He tried to drag himself away but his hands had a different mind of their own.

She was emotionally weak and he should not take advantage of her state but it was too late to resist.

She was a temptation and he was willing to be captivated.
