A DEAFENING blast resounded in an instant. Elise's hands paused, gaping at the wall reduced to smithereens. Debris fell all over the floor, contrary to her temper rising as she put down the mortar and pestle she was holding.

Her face scrunched up. Grabbing the hardbound book on her side, she marched to see the instigator of it all.

"You jerks!" she screamed at the top of her lungs while jumping into the massive hole.

On the other side, two figures stood wearing white lab coats with gloves and safety goggles. Messy brown scattered around their face and both of their crazy smiles looked so identical that they could pass off as twins.

"What is that monstrosity you're holding again?! Don't you know I'm working?!"

"Mom said to tell you we're going out for dinner later," Edward, their oldest sibling, stated.

Elise's downturned-shaped eyes narrowed. "Is that all?"

"Uhuh."

"Urgh!" She lunged toward them and flung the book in their direction. But, despite staying in the laboratory 24/7, her brothers were very agile.

"Easy, Elise. We just finished our experiment and there's no better opportunity to test it out," Ethan answered with that annoying grin, showing no ounce of regret.

"You smashed my wall just for that? Did you lose all your brain cells or are your heads just for decorations? " Her other hand raised to grab Ethan's hair but he evaded with Edward following behind.

Their laughs echoed along the walls, aggravating her further, that Elise did not notice a small midget taking advantage of the situation and entered her bedroom.

Her two older brothers continued playing around, taunting her with every attack she made. But when the piece of metal enters her peripheral, her mind cleared, shifting her focus to the machinery laying on the ground.

"No, no, no, Elise," they said in unison, realizing what she was about to do.

Her lips tilted before applying all the self-defense lessons she learned in that single kick. The smashing sound was so satisfying paired with her brothers' agonizing groans.

And in perfect coincidence, it hit the wall while a girl was rushing in the hallway, seemingly like a thief from all the commotion. She was covered with a black cape and hood all over her body but Elise's eyes zeroed on the thing in her fingers.

"Evelyn! Did you steal my herbs? "

Her little sister recovered from the shock and ran. Elise chased after her without thinking but Evelyn's small steps were quicker. Her sister reached the living room first and dove to their mom's arms.

"What's the matter?" her mom questioned after seeing Elise's expression.

"She took away my herbs," she said, glaring at the pipsqueak who remained unbothered as if she had not done anything wrong.

"Oh, that's okay. Let her have it."

"Mom!"

"We can buy it again. Anyway, you finally left your room. Why don't you sit here? You're given a sick leave but you're still working. Don't keep worrying me." As usual, her mom's voice of reason worked on her, making Elise sit on her side while Evelyn was smiling like a devil on her left.

"Mom, that herb is for my concoction and I need every single piece of it. I'm fine if she wants to have it for something useful but she's going to make voodoo dolls. Voodoo dolls!" She could not emphasize it more but her mom's smile remained complacent.
