Zaria 🥀

"So, you have a daughter?" My cousin Scarlet asked Lex with a fascination, sitting across the couch with her sister Julia, my uncle and his wife.

It's their first-time meeting Lex. They say they have good memories with him when he was a child and missed him over the years. I don't know about the sisters but I believe my uncle and aunt genuinely have a soft spot for him.

Lex nods in response. I'm sitting right beside him, so I turn my face as I whisper in his ears. "You definitely wouldn't want Amelia around them."

The people pleaser bitch inside of me would have hesitated to stop them from meeting Amelia. Ella is just a baby, and the only thing these girls will be interested in anything related to babies will be the baby lotion to make their skin flawless.

"Would have loved to bring her to meet with you but she was feeling fuzzy so I let her stay at her nanny’s." Lex replied awkwardly to the guests.

Which is not a complete lie. Amelia is with her nanny but he couldn't bring Amelia here because of the danger. He doesn't even trust his own territory to look after Amelia when he is not there. He said their business isn't bloody but his father is still a dangerous man.

"The breakfast is ready; would you like to join us?" Thia asked our guests politely despite her distaste in them.

They have arrived here an hour ago. Giving us flowers and sympathy because George is dead. Only if they knew what actually happened to him, they were just told he got shot in the shootout when they were saving me. I couldn’t tell my uncle that I shot his brother, there is no way I would be able to explain such a complicated situation. The less they know, the better.  My uncle and aunty might genuinely feel sympathy but I bet their girls will ever do. At least not for me.

I remember the day when I was 17 and sneaked into a club with Thia— that was also the day when I first met Cade through Thia's friend circle— George didn't know about that but the next day Julia and Scarlet sent pictures of me in the club with the boys to George. He didn't mind about Thia since she was adult—also a rebel who never took his shit— but he made me wish I was never born that day.

And in the night of the same day, I saw the sisters live-streaming in a club while smoking pot and getting high with random boys. Double faced.

Thia still doesn't have any idea of it because she was mostly busy at Vitalis training institute during those years.

"No, Thank you, Thia. We just came to give our condolences and to see how Zaria is doing after everything." My uncle looked at me with glassy eyes. He is a good man. Scarlet and Julia have no idea what they have.

I give him a genuine smile. “Thank you.”

"Too bad you are my cousin." Julia’s voice makes me look towards her as she ogled Lex.

His eyebrows shot up and he looked at me with face frozen. He tried his best to not let his eyes twitch at the cringe-ness of the comment while I pursed my lips and gave him a look that says 'I know'.

"Excuse me, ma'am? Can I have a word with you for a second please?" One of the maids approached from behind me with mix of politeness and hesitation.

I excuse myself before standing up and walking to a corner near the kitchen with the maid alone who is clad in her dark blue uniform. Pressed black trousers and deep blue shirt. She is holding something in her slightly shaking hands.

"I-I am sorry if I am crossing my boundaries but I thought it's important for you to know what Mr. Erik has been up to." Her voice shakes with nervousness and hesitation.
