Hello, readers! So here I have my first one shot for Bridget, aka @the_midnight_moon !! Sorry it's so late, Bridget. I was really busy and sick this week and I didn't know what to write about. And thanks to Margaret, aka @maggiemae555 for helping come up with a topic. Just so you know, the characters in his story are Bridget (@the_midnight_moon), Margaret (@maggiemae555), and Christina (@ChristinaZ2). I hope you enjoy it!

April 16, 1957

My friends Christina and Margaret are dragging me along to the roller rink for about the fiftieth time this spring. I sighed and pulled myself out of my bed, looking at the clock, 6:30. Great, now I have about half an hour to get ready. My closet was over flowing with dirty clothes, as I never felt like doing my laundry. Only one thing was left hanging clean in my closet: my black polo with my light blue poodle skirt. The shirt slid easily over my head as I yanked the skirt up my legs. I trudged into my bathroom and flicked on the light switch, taking a glance at myself in the mirror.

My face was a bit pale, as I haven’t been able to get into the sun much during the winter. I whipped out my black eyeliner and drew on my signature cat eye that extended out a little into a wing. I ran the mascara wand through my eyelashes a couple of times and pulled my hair into a tight ponytail. I tied my yellow ribbon around my head. Taking a final look in the mirror at myself, I slipped out of the bathroom and headed back to my messy bedroom. Digging my black and white saddle shoes out of my closet, I put them on my feet and headed out the door, grabbing my yellow cardigan on my way.

As I arrived at the roller rink after about ten minutes of walking, I saw Christina and Margaret standing and waiting for me with huge smiles on their faces. Christina was wearing her favorite black poodle skirt with a yellow top and Margaret in her pink skirt with her white top. We all matched a little as we walked over to the booth to rent some roller skates.

I wasn’t that bad at roller skating, I was actually pretty good. But Christina and Margaret dragged me to the rink about every weekend, so it was starting to get on my nerves. I tied them tightly and stood up, waiting for Christina and Margaret. The rink was packed tonight. It’s one of the best rinks in the city and all of the students at our school come on Friday nights. Not too many people were actually skating at the moment, but it was sure to fill up sometime.

I found an entrance to the rink and slowly stepped in, making sure not to bump into any of the skaters. A couple of white lights shined down on the rink and the song ‘Jailhouse Rock’ by my love, Elvis, was playing loudly. Christina followed me in, and Margaret trailed behind. She wasn’t too good at skating, but she sure loved it. Christina was helping poor Margaret struggle along so I decided to go off on my own. This rink was huge, almost as long as a football field and it was easy to get lost in the crowd. But I didn’t care. I sped off, my skates rolling smoothly along the wooden floor. I spun a couple of times, my skirt puffing up and my ponytail flying. I continued to skate along to my favorite song, but it soon ended. A new song that I didn’t know started to play next, but I skated along to the beat of the loud drum booming in the background.

I was about to start into another spin as someone collided with me. I toppled over onto my stomach, half of my body lying on someone. I shook my head slightly, trying to clear my blurry vision.

“I’m so sorry! Sorry, sorry! Are you okay?” the person asked. He had a deep voice… with an accent. It was cute.

“It’s okay, I’m fine, I promise,” I assured the boy. I quickly glanced at him, but soon turned my head back to the beautiful creature sitting next to me. His hair was very curly and long, it flipped neatly to the side, falling just above his green eyes. He had a cute face and he smiled at me with huge dimples and bright white teeth. He was decked out in a pair of nice black pants with a plaid shirt on top. He had a leather jacket slung over his arm as he stood up on his roller skates, wobbling. “Are you okay?”

“Yea, yea. I’m good,” he smiled again, showing off the teeth. He brushed his pants off a little, wobbling again and held his hand out for me to shake. “I’m Harry.” I gladly shook his hand.

“Bridget.” I smiled back at him and brushed a few of my blonde strands out of my face. “Um… do you need some help?” I asked, worried as he clutched onto the wall of the rink for dear life.

“Yea, I think that’d be helpful,” he smirked, reaching out to my hand and grabbing onto me tightly. “I’m not good at skating… if you couldn’t already tell.” I laughed at his comment as he struggled to keep up with my smooth skating. His legs would shake and he would tightly hold onto my arm trying not to fall again. He would constantly thank me and give me smiles. As we passed some of my school friends, they would whistle or giggle at us. I would roll my eyes and Harry would blush a dark red.

“So do you go to Greenwood?” I asked, referring to our high school. He nodded quickly.

“Yea, I just moved here from London, actually. My mum got transferred to around here,” he said with a smile. From London, wow. I always loved English boys.

“That’s so cool. I’ve always wanted to go to London.”

“Maybe I could take you there some time.” I blushed at his comment.

“If you ever need help around here, I’m happy to help.” He mumbled a thank you as he slipped and fell again, bringing me down with him. I laughed hysterically at his fall, as he landed flat on his back. He chuckled at himself, too and we both sat on the floor laughing. As we laughed, the rink’s DJ (aka my friend, Fatima), came over the intercom.

“I’m happy to announce that it is 8:30! You all know what that means! Couple Skate!” the intercom shut off and a slow instrumental song began to play as the rink lights dimmed. I groaned internally.

“Ugh, I hate Couple Skate!” I complained. Harry laughed at me before slowly standing up and dragging me off the wooden floor onto the carpet outside the rink. “Thank you for that.”

“Anytime, love. Anyway… do you have a date to the prom?” My eyes widened and my cheeks flushed bright red.

“Oh… well… no. No one asked me so I wasn’t planning on going. Do you?” Harry looked at me sweetly.

“No, I don’t. Do you… maybe…” Harry stuttered as he brushed his curls out of his face. “maybe… want to go with… well… with me?” I just blushed a very deep red. And in throwing my arms around him, I screamed out,

“YES!”

So thank you for reading, if you did, and I hope you liked it!

XOXO, Gracie
