Hunter Hayes Imagine for Jennie

“Hey, Jennie…” Hunter asked nervously from my left. I was pulling things out of my locker, books flying everywhere, papers parading down the hall. I was struggling carrying all of my stuff, and tried to catch things as they fell. I totally disregarded what he was saying.

“Hey uh can you carry this?” I asked, handing him a stack of books. “Oh and pick that up?” I say, pointing to three papers that are lying on the floor by my sneakers.

“Yea, yea,” he says, avoiding my eye contact. He looks a little nervous. He hands me the papers which I shove back into my locker quickly. I dump the rest of the fallen books back inside and slam the door before anything else can fall out. “But, uh, Jennie?” Hunter tries again.

I kind of shake it off, and try to pull my backpack off the ground, and heaving it over my shoulder. It was heavy and weighed me down. I almost fell, but pulled the bag back up before I could collapse on the ground.

“Oh, let me get that for you,” Hunter says from behind me, pulled the bag off my and putting it on his own. The weight doesn’t seem to faze him at all. “But I need to talk to you, Jen,” he says again. I wipe the hair out of my face and finally turn to him.

“Yes?” I ask in an exasperated voice, tired from all of the stress this morning. “What do you need, Hunter?” The way his name came out in the sentence made it sound like I was frustrated. Even though I wasn’t… well, not with him.

“Oh… well… if you’re not in a good mood, I can come back later…” he said, looking at his shoes and starting to turn away.

“No, no, Hunter, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry I’m just a little stressed out. You did nothing wrong, ok?” I said, sincerely apologizing, and giving him a huge hug. “What is it you wanted to tell me?”

“Oh, um,” he looked so nervous… it was almost cute. “I was just wondering… oh… well… Jennie… I, uh, I… doyouwanttobemygirlfriend?” he asked all in one breath. I was shocked for a second. Hunter, my best friend in the entire world, wanted me to be his girlfriend? I never knew he liked me like that… I wonder if he knew I’d been crushing on him since the second grade when he got Elmer’s Glue in my hair and came home with me to apologize to my mom.

“Oh, Hunter,” I said, a smile growing on my lips as I stared at the ground.

“It’s okay if you don’t want to…” he said uncomfortably. “I get it.” He was about to turn around when I stopped him.

“No, no! I would love to be your girlfriend, Hunter,” I said, throwing my arms around his neck.
