Chapter 27

When I look up into the mirror what I see shocks me, it is Lucy, with an evil smirk on her face holding the same knife Skotadi used when she cut her neck.

"Hey Hades, miss me?" She whispers. She walks towards me and places her hands on my shoulder. Goosebumps spread over my body. She bends her boney neck and pursed her lips towards my ears, so close that I felt her cold breath. She whispers, "She's got you now." I close my eyes and when I open them, she's gone. Who's got me now? What does this mean? These are the things that I think about as I splash water on my face.

I go to visit Lucy. I half expected her body not to be there but was relieved when it was. She was pale as death but I could still hear the faint beating of her heart, weak. I held her bony fingers, reminded of how they felt on my shoulders, cold, and dead. "Lucy, I promise you that I shall avenge you and remove this curse from you." I want so badly to kiss her but at this point I do not know what might happen if I get too close to her, remembering what happened to Skotadi. "Lucy, Skotadi's dead," when I say Skotadi's name, I feel Lucy's finger tighten around mine for a second, "She died trying to help you, she'll be remembered." Poseidon enters the room. "Hades, Shota would like to speak to you," again, she squeezes my finger, "Ugh, what does that damned witch want, what more does she want from me that she doesn't already have, I mean she's already taken the most important thing in my life!" Poseidon places a hand on my shoulder to calm me down. "I'm sorry; I've just being so off and irrational these days, I don't know what's wrong with me." I kiss Lucy's hand and I don't know if I imagine it or not but for a split second I think I feel her tug at me, almost telling me not to leave.

When we get to the gates, Shota and her army are still as energetic as they were the last time I saw them. Shota, having the same evil smirk that Lucy had in the bathroom, gestures for me to come towards her. I walk till I am five feet away from her, the gate a barrier. "How's poor Lucy doing?" I feel a sudden rage surge through but I swallow it down. "She's coping, as I am." Her smirk widens. "Are you really? Are you really coping Hades cause you look like you're about four to five seconds from evaporating." I feel thankful that my hands are behind my back so she does not see how clenched my fists are.

I swear I'm going to kill this bitch.

"What do you want Shota, ask for it, I'll give you, just please leave Lucy alone." For the first time ever her smirk turns in a deep scowl, she tries to stretch her arm for my neck but the barrier protecting the wall burn her fingers. "I want Olympia to burn to the ground, that's what I want and your kingdom is going to be first. I spent millenniums planning this moment. Do you know what it feels to be struck with lightning? I do because of this fool," she points towards Zeus, "I knew that in order to control the gods I needed to do it through their wives, which is why I killed them, but I never seemed to go far. Then I started to notice a pattern. I noticed that when the gods realized that I had killed their wives, they became very mad, they mind became a breeding ground for irrational thoughts and actions, and so I thought I would use that to my advantage, I thought myself how to control people through their mind. A decade worth of practice but it was worth it. When Xavier first told me that you had a wife, I almost did not believe it, no one thought you would move on from Persephone. Then I began to think, if only I could just get the body of Lucy without you finding out then I would control you without even knowing. But based on my current situation, that did not work out.

Then it struck me. You, Hades, are the god of death; I mean your rage is so intense and raw that you evaporate when you're angry, so I decided to put my little talent to use. Hades did you know that while you've been so angry about what I've done to Lucy and the possibility of her dying, you've neglected your mind? That has left some tiny gaps for my poisonous thoughts and suggestions to seep in. Tell me Hades, don't you feel like killing me now? Your hand around my throat, seeping the life out of me." Her saying such things actually made me want to do them. I suddenly hear Lucy's voice in my head. Hades, avenge me, you said you would. Just open the gates and you'll have her in your grasps. Yes, just open the gates and I would have my hands around her neck and avenge my wife. A voice whispers in my ear, "Just do it. You know you want to. End your wife's misery." I soon hear myself saying the spell to unlock the gates.
