Logan

I made my way to the vending machine and decided on getting a black coffee to wake myself up. I took a few sips before placing it down, my hands against the vending machine as I yawned and tried maintaining awake.

"Hey man. You alright?" Steven asked, startling me. He hit my back lightly making the coffee spill a little on top of the machine.

I sighed rubbing my chin.

"Yeah. I'm fine. Where were you? I thought you had gone home?" I asked him, turning my body and leaning against the machine with arms and legs crossed over.

"Nah, I went to get some grub for everyone. You hungry?" He asked, his hands lifted the plastic bags he held in his hands.

"I'm good. But maybe the rest will be hungry. Come on, let's get some drinks for everyone before we go back." I said, turning around and placing more money in the other machine, grabbing juices and sodas for everyone.

I had a few cans in hand and was struggling to pick up the rest. I placed some of them in my jeans pocket and grabbed the other cans out.

"Hey, need any help?" Ashley asked as I knelt down. I looked up towards her and smiled, " Hey bugger, what are you doing here?" I asked her making her giggle.

"Mom brought me. She overheard Mr. Patterson's phone call when you called him. She asked what was wrong and then asked mom to stay and look after the project for a bit. She was really worried, but then Mr. Pascal finally came back from his deliveries and she rushed home to take a bath and come here. So I tagged along so I can see Sophie."

"Here. Hold these." I said to her, handing her the cans I had in my hand.

"So you came to see Sophie? You didn't come to see how your brother was doing or what?" I taunted her, acting as if I was bothered and hurt that she wasn't here to see me. I honestly didn't mind. Sophie had been nice to her all along. I know she misses her, hell, I miss her. Seeing her here makes it so hard for me. I want to run and hug her and tell her that everything is ok, that everything will be ok.

The urge to hug and kiss her is unbearable. I need her so much, especially now with the issue, we have to deal with. After I called Derreck and explained to him the situation I asked him to help me and mom get through this without having to make it into a big court case. I'm afraid dad will not back down and fight for Ashley's custody. He already knows I'm a lost cause since I already turned eighteen, but why give mom a hard time after he was the one that committed adultery?

This was really irritating.

"OH! Oreos. Logan get me some Oreos, PLEASE?" She asked, clinging onto my sleeve. I chuckled and gave her a couple of fives. "Here, get whatever you want. We'll be in the waiting area, so hurry up, ok?" I told her grabbing the last drink and winked at her with a smile. She grabbed the money and jumped with joy, holding the money to her chest.

"YES! thank you, brother," she replied happily as Steven and I walked away.

We went back to the sitting area where we all sat, mom and Mr. P were talking softly. Sophie was no longer sitting here, which means she was probably in her mom's room.

"Hey, mom. How are you doing? Are you tired? You've been working all day nonstop, you need to rest a little."I said concerned with her health. She has been having many sleepless nights since we came back from Chicago. It's killing me to see her this way.  My girls mean so much to me. I hate seeing them this way. I wish there was something I could do other than be here. I feel useless and incompetent.

"I'm fine sweetheart. How is she? Did you talk to her?" She asked looking around with concern written all over the room.

"Talk to who? What are you talking about?" I asked in a low voice. Mr. P stood there listening quietly.
