"Do not tell me to calm down!" I yell across the room. We just brought all the HYDRA agents back, and the universe traveling machine. Whatever the heck it is. "Tony, I'm sure we can find a way to get those kids back home safe," Steve says to me. He doesn't understand. Why does no one understand?! "Nova was the only way to get across universes. She can't even do that without the machine or a major freak out. She doesn't have a machine, and both of them are stuck in a universe who hates people like them!" I sit down and put a hand to my head.
Pepper comes from behind me and gives me a hug, shooing everyone else out the room. "Should I have let her come here?" I ask Pepper. She gives me a sigh. "Now Peter's stuck in another universe. And this universe is always at risk at breaking with her around. If we ever bring them back, maybe we should leave her behind." I know it's a selfish thought, but that girl is too much a risk. Pepper sits next to me and leans close. "You'll see them again, Tony. Don't worry. We can bring them back and find something to help her. It's going to be fine." This reminds me of the time I watched Peter calm down Nova during an anxiety attack.
He told her that everything was going to be fine. But look what happened. This is just the exact opposite of fine. Fine is a lie. Fine is a mask for the pain. An easy way to dismiss it. Because nothing will ever be fine. It's simply not true. Something will always go wrong. But that doesn't mean I won't try to make them right.
I nod and head to the lab. I'm going to do whatever it takes to get Peter back. I don't know about Nova, though.
I grab supplies and start to make a hologram test run with FRIDAY. "Sir, this needs a significant power source. I don't think you can create this contraption." I don't care. I'm getting my kid. "We're doing it anyways!" I yell up at her.
Looks like I'm not going to be able to read Morgan her bedtime story.
I'm not stopping until I find a way to bring him back.
