The house I grew up in was too loud
Filled with drugs and bile
The stench of alcohol and regret
the screaming matches of failed relationships and jobs they couldn't quit
The crying lunatics as they got sick from toxins and from my stepdad, the never ending mocking and continued blocking of the love my mother was supposed to give...

Cayden

Being the new kid sucked.

Everything was so unfamiliar. From the building layout, to the teachers and most importantly, the other students. Standing in the lunch line, looking around at the sea of faces I didn't recognize.

And so I was forced to look at strangers, looking out for a new person to talk to. Maybe someone to bring home, to ensure no more complete silence at my house. To take up space in an otherwise empty home.

What home? The bitter side of me said.

Oh yeah, the one where my mother was dead and father was mostly absent, throwing himself into work as not to face reality of her passing. Or the fact that he was stuck with me as a result of her leaving him for an abusive man. My evil stepfather, may the devil have his grips on him in Hell, the bastard.

Shaking away the dark thoughts, my gaze landed on a couple, as it did everyone else, they looked straight out of a magazine, both as they strode in wearing designer clothes and flashy jewelry, the guy with his arm over the shoulders of a short girl who smiled up at him with full rosy lips. Her long light brown hair tumbled down in waves, almost to her waist, her eyes wide as she looked up at him with a smile.

But it was a vacant smile, one I learned to recognize. And suddenly, I couldn't help but watch, for different reasons than everyone else, as the ink black haired boy pulled the girl close to him and gave her a kiss on the cheek, grinning down at her as they made their way to the front of the line, cutting everyone but no one seemed to notice.

As they passed by, everyone looked at them with envy and admiration.

While the male with bright blue eyes looked so confident, I noticed the girl... she looked lost. Almost withdrawn. A huge fake smile plastered on her face, one that didn't reach her eyes, that I noticed were green as she passed by.

And my heart leaped to my throat as I remembered my mother, her last night breathing, looking as if she had given up, as she stared off in the distance with her empty eyes, a memory of torment playing over inside her head that no one else could see.

Maybe I should get to know that girl. See why her eyes looked so empty.

"Cayden Stanley right?" A kid with curly hair, shorter than me with large rectangle glasses,  was asking now. Smelling the air, I recognized him to be a werewolf. And knew it was his curiosity that had him walking up to me.

There were quite a few weres at this school, but a lot more humans at the same time as with every school.

I nodded: "Yeah that's me."

"Oh wow, so cool! I heard you don't have a pack? Finally man, I've never met a lone wolf-" I drowned him out as I watched as the couple take their seat, the girl sitting down on his lap with ease.

I couldn't help but notice as everyone chatted on around her, the girl didn't join in at all. From where everyone could see, they looked like the perfect couple, the potential prom king and queen, the couple you wouldn't mention ones name without the other.
So why did I have a gut feeling that there was another story to tell?
