Against It

You are so close,

In reach,

Yet never attainable.

Guarded like the royal jewels,

Emotionally guarded,

Raising your walls higher,

And higher.

I try to chip away at it,

Uncover who you really are,

How you really feel.

After each brick is another,

One after the other. Seemingly impossible,

Except when you show those personal moments,

A glimpse into your mind.

After a second, You close back up,

Like a healing wound,

Or a clam with a hidden pearl.

You, Being that pearl.

Always trying to dig deeper,

Against the shield you have created.

Always against it.

There always seems to be something hiding,

Something waiting to be let out.

You are so much more than who you present yourself as,

I see it.

Yearning to have you,

To be able to constantly see who you are,

Whom I've fallen for.

It was a slow fall,

Much like the autumn turning into winter,

Yet once fallen it's like spring into summer.

Into the burning heat,

Commanded to simmer.

It seems impossible to have you,

But it doesn't stop the fall,

If anything it speeds it up.

You're the complete opposite of me,

But it's not a bad thing.

If only you were what I wish you were,

But I cannot change that.

That one thing that halts it all,

It's almost poetic injustice,

Yet I still try to fight against it,

Against what you claim to be.
