Gold Coated

A shimmering necklace,
A beautiful jewel.
The light is caught and thrown,
Casting a million golden suns in the walls.
The beholder dares in awe,
While the necklace knows the truth.
It's just coated in gold,
An illusion to the eye.
Hiding beneath it is a dull metal,
Covered by liquid fire.
The light captured is fake,
Like a projection on a screen.
It lives a lie,
To kill the truth.
The necklace is just a vessel,
Used,
Bemused,
Never to choose.
Yet the necklace covers up,
Under a blanket of gold.
