When Elder Du knelt all of a sudden, it caused the ministers give him weird looks.
Little drops of sweats covered his forehead. Right now, Elder Du doesn't care about his image any more. All that matters now is saving his life!
"Please forgive me, your highness!"
Elder Du's action made the emperor frown. "Du Feng, what are you doing?"
Turning his body away from Yin Yun and towards Yin Xing Tan, Elder Du kowtowed repeatedly on the hard surface of the floor. "Please forgive me, your majesty! I have done wrong!"
When Elder Du did not give him a clear answer, Yan Xing Tan became more dissatisfied with him. "Tell me clearly!" Yin Xing Tan raised his voice slightly but to Elder Du, it was like a decree.
"I-I..." Elder Du couldn't seem to speak. He stutters and then fell silent.
Yin Xing Tan's face is especially dark right now. The ministers who are Concubine Du's confidants saw that the situation doesn't seem to look good.
"Your majesty, whatever mistakes Elder Du committed, this subject is sure it won't be that big of a deal. Let's just forgive Elder Du for whatever wrongs he did and forget this matter." The Right Prime Minister Yan stepped forward to give his suggestion. It seems to him that Elder Du's wrongdoing has something to do with the crown princess and knowing how much the emperor dotes on her, Elder Du will be punished severely if he had cause harm to the crowned princess.
Yin Xing Tan knew what Minister Yan is trying to do but he isn't a fool to just forget this matter especially when he knew what had happened.
"I think Minister Yan is correct."
"Yes, we should just forget this matter."
"I'm certain that whatever wrong Elder Du made is just trivial."
"Of course! What wrongs could he have made that would be important."
Half of the ministers speaking up for a Elder Du are the other confidants of Concubine Du. This clearly shows how much power Concubine Du holds in the court.
Then the other half of ministers started arguing back.
"Why would the noble and mighty Elder Du plead for forgiveness if what he did wrong is just a trivial matter?" One can clearly hear the sarcasm in this 2nd ranked minister's voice.
"I say that he committed a grave sin!"
"Your majesty, why not question Elder Du? I'm sure he'll answer your majesty truthfully."
Then the other side started arguing back.
"How dare you accuse an Imperial Concubine's brother?"
All the ministers are all heated up in an argument.
In the midst of the chaos, a maid about to serve tea as usual left her job behind as she snook away to Imperial Concubine Du's quarter.
