"I can't believe this," Branch said. "This is incredible. This is a miracle."
"It is," Poppy said, and leaned into him for a hug. "I'm glad we're still together. I'm glad I didn't die."
"But what about Creek?" Branch asked her. "What are we going to do?"
Poppy shrugged. "I guess we'll still try and save him. But no more climbing on trees."
"Okay," Branch said. "We've had too many innocents with trees."
"You got that right," Poppy said, and smiled.
She leaned up and kissed him on the cheek.
Branch smiled.
