Atlas and Will got a table after placing their drink order. Atlas glanced at Makenna's table only for Brandon to turn and catch his gaze. If Atlas felt bad for being caught glancing at them, he didn't bat an eye to show any sign of discomfort. But rather, he stared right at Brandon and the unspoken rules of the game were agreed upon.

Atlas' finger tapped his finger on the table as the seconds ticked by. Brandon on the other hand had been caught unaware by the situation and struggled to keep his eyes on his opponent. He clenched his jaw as he felt the strain in his eyes as they began to painfully tear up. Atlas' eyes were relaxed beneath the hood of his eyebrows.

Will looked up from his phone to find Atlas' face turned away from him, his question unanswered. He followed the direction of his gaze and found a guy at the table on the far end staring back at Atlas. The look that passed between them was strained and it wasn't until he saw the person across from the guy that he clearly understood the situation. He smiled to himself and relaxed into his seat watching the battle unfold in front of him.

He watched in pride as the guy on the other table blinked and snatched his gaze from Atlas. Atlas on the other hand wasn't smug about winning whatever that was, but Will didn't fail to notice to hint of smile at the corner of his lips.

"What was that?"

Atlas looked up at Will to find amusement written all over his face. Will glanced at Makenna's table to signify what he was talking about.

"Nothing." Atlas adjusted in his seat,

"I think we established a while ago that it isn't nothing."

"What? Me and him?" Atlas asked and paused for a moment before he sighed dramatically, "Yes, you're right. I should have told you but unforbidden love and everything..."

"Shut up."

Atlas laughed before he involuntarily glanced at Makenna again. Brandon caught him again but Atlas was too busy looking at her that he didn't notice him again. He looked at Makenna who typed away on her phone.

"You know him?" Brandon asked before he could stop himself.

Makenna lifted her gaze from her phone as soon as she hit send on the text to Thea. She met his gaze and her brow rose in question.

"The guy who can't stop looking at you."

Makenna felt she knew who he was talking about. But for a show, she turned and immediately found his gaze without even trying. Their gazes held before she slowly looked away and at Brandon.

She shrugged with a shake of her head,
"Not particularly."

"He seems to know you." Brandon said, "You may even have crossed paths at some parties."

Makenna glared at Brandon. She hated feeling like she was being accused of something.
"Like I said, not particularly." She enunciated the last word.

Their order number was called but Makenna was pissed to back down from this. She kept her gaze on him and waited until Brandon sighed and got up.

"I'll get our drinks." He said,

Makenna immediately got up,
"I can get my own drink." She walked away heading towards the counter,

Brandon sighed, feeling bad for opening his mouth. He should have just minded his business like he always did. But he had once again, let his emotion get in the way. He headed towards the counter to get his drink at the same time Makenna was heading back to the table. She brushed past him without looking at him like she had no idea who he was.

Makenna arrived at the table and immediately got out her AirPods. She plugged them into her ear and wasted no time selecting a song on her Spotify playlist. Brandon got back to the table just as she reached for her drink. He didn't bother sitting back down when Makenna didn't spare him a glance. He got the message loud and clear, so he reached for his bag and left.

Atlas and Will were at the counter getting their drinks and about to head out when Atlas spotted Brandon leaving the café. Will watched Atlas' gaze shift to the table where Makenna sat there alone.

"Hey," Will said and Atlas looked at him, "I have to run, but I'll see you tomorrow."

"Uh," Atlas didn't mind, "Of course."

Will turned and left the café while Atlas watched him leave before he shifted his gaze to Makenna again. He stood there as his conversation with Thea came to mind about Makenna being his friend.

She really was just becoming his friend.
He thought.

Whatever reason Thea had for not believing him was not his problem. He slowly headed towards her table. When he arrived at the table and placed his bag on one of the empty ones then pulled out one of the other chairs and sat down.

Makenna noticed Atlas' movement and waited for him to get settled before she slowly shifted her gaze from her phone to meet his gaze. She wasn't in the least bit surprised to find him there only because, as much as she hated to admit it, she'd felt him come up behind her.

"AirPods." Atlas mouthed,

Makenna's gaze was locked with his because she didn't need to read his lips to figure out what he was saying. She smiled slightly because they'd been here before. The smile that appeared on Atlas' lips let her know that she wasn't the only one having déjà vu. Her gaze dropped from his captivating gaze to his mouth and for a second she forgot where she was.

The smile had disappeared from both their faces when she met his gaze again. She took out her AirPods and placed them in the case breaking their eye contact in the process. The chatter around them slowly filtered into the space between them as they both reached for their drinks at the same time.

They avoided each other's gaze as they sipped on their drink. Makenna drummed her fingers on her lap beneath the table and Atlas tapped his forefinger on his leg beneath the table.

Both wanting to hide and hiding a want.
