LATISHA VALENTINE

Napahawak ako sa aking tiyan ng nakaramdam ako ng sakit mula doon. Sa dami ng iniisip ko, alam kong naapektuhan na ang mga bata sa sinapupunan ko kaya pilit akong kumalma. Walang mangyayari kung magpapadala ako sa stress, kaya't minaigi ko nalang na bigyan tuon ang paghinga ko.

He gave me another glance when he noticed my silence had been longer than usual.

Lumapit ako at umupo sa kaharap na upuan. "Who is holding the upper hand? The Duke or Uncle Varman?" tanong ko. My voice was mixed with uneasiness and determination. Nakipagtitigan lang siya saglit bago umiwas ng tingin.

"Asawa mo," sagot niya. He leaned back and comfortably made his body rest on the sofa. "He managed to deplete the forces before they could even strategize. Wala siyang tigil kakapaslang sa lahat ng nakikita niyang armadong grupo sa buong lalawigan. Dahil sa ginagawa niya, nagwawala si Uncle," walang gana niyang sagot. He closed his eyes and took a breath. "Uncle Varman deployed a group to assassinate the Duke while he was traveling to Denver. Pero alam naman natin na hindi magwawagi ang mga ito."

"When will Uncle ever stop?" nanggigil na tanong ko.

"Maybe until the election ends?" he replied.

Right, the election is the opening of the war. If they fail to conquer Edinburgh, there are no more chances their mutiny will commence. Unless someone is protecting them.

"Magnus," tawag ko sa kanya. He didn't budge but I know he is listening. "Do you think someone is backing up the Moore Clan?" tanong ko kaagad dahilan para bumukas ang kanyang mga mata at dinapuan ako ng nagtatakang mga tingin. "Father is dead, and Uncle Varman is leading the army. We know him as a person who doesn't give a fuck about mutiny our a century old vengeance. Why is he eager to take Edinburgh now?"

Umayos ng upo Magnus. "Are you suggesting we are puppets?" he said with a voice filled with determination. Something in him wishes for me to contract such statements.

"I don't know, Father never truly tells me the entire details. I have a faint impression that something is odd," agad na sagot ko. I was slowly rubbing my belly because of the tension I'm feeling inside. "The Duke knew our clan was the enemy, but he didn't report this to the Emperor, not because I am his wife, but somehow he wanted to hide something else," dagdag ko. Nakasalubong na ang mga kilay ko.
