Chapter 33

*Ava's POV*

The next two days consisted of me slaving off and taking insults from Thomas while I kept biting my tongue and bowing my head. I honestly couldn't wait for him to leave. This man was brought here to torture me and he was succeeding

Luckily, Richard was able to keep Thomas busy and out of my hair. Xander was coming back today and I was counting down the hours. The day went quite well despite having a very hostile visitor.

I prepared dinner, luckily Richard, Rossette and Kayla were joining us so it wasn't going to be awkward, Richard always stood up for me when he felt I was being looked down on, a true father figure...something I can never say about my own father.

"don't you get tired of preparing a feast everyday?" Kayla asked while helping me set up the table

"what can I say.. Only the best for the grand alpha"  I said while winking

"plus you know he's into detail"

"oh yes ma'am, I can't afford to give him more ammunition to put me down, being human is worse as it is"

"I'm sorry Ava, I know it hasn't been the easiest three days of your life and I haven't really had your back, Xander isn't here either"

"It's ok, your parents have been great help, Luna Lindsey has been of help too"

"well hopefully they will be on their way soon"

"You have no idea how I'm so looking foward to that day"

Just as we were preparing Xander walked in and I immediately felt so much joy, I left everything and wrapped my hands around him just as he put his bag on the floor and put his hands on my cheeks as he leaned in for a kiss, i thought it would be a simple one but he just kept going and I couldn't resist as well

"hello... Hi... Maybe you might want to get a room" Kayla said

Xander slowly pulled away but we still maintained eye contact "I missed you beautiful"

"I missed you too Alpha"  I smiled, at that moment I knew I could take any insult from Thomas and I'd handle it. Xander was my strength, him being back just revived me and made me feel more alive than I've been for the past few days

"I'll go change then come down for dinner" he said as he let go of my hand and went upstairs

"think you can spare me a few minutes" he mindlinked me and I immediately knew what he was hinting on

"I can't, I need to make sure everything is good for dinner, our guest is very strict"

"his been giving you hell?"

"Yea but don't worry, your parents have my back"

I stopped talking to Xander and brought in the food from the kitchen and a few minutes, Thomas, Lindsey, Rossette and Richard walked in and sat just as Xander walked in the dining room as well

"Xander, good to see you my boy" Thomas said with a very high voice

"It's good to see you too uncle, it's been a while" he said as he took a seat opposite me and flashed me a smile. I ate in silence as the others two former Alphas had a chat with Xander about his business visit.

"the food is very nice Ava" Lindsey said

"thank you, Kayla helped" I said while turning to look at Kayla

"yes, she's been doing her absolute best to make us feel welcome and comfortable" Thomas said and I almost choked on my food. Was he really complimenting me, was it for show because Xander is here now

"I'm glad to hear that" Xander said

"The goddess really paired you up with a capable woman Xander, she's strong, she literally took every insult I threw at her and met all my demands without having a breakdown"

Then he turned to look at me "Ava, not many people can handle me but for the past few days you've bared it. I wanted to see just how much you can take, Xander is like a son to me so I don't expect the woman who stands besides him to be a weakling, werewolf or not, you need to be able to handle the heat and you damn right did.. Although I'm sure you silently threw some insults my way" he ended with a laugh

"well, it seems like it's been a busy three days" Xander said glancing at me

"You have no idea and on that note we will be heading back to our pack tomorrow"

I could jump for joy right there and then, you don't know the relief I felt when I heard Thomas say he was leaving

*Xander's POV*

Being away from Ava shortly after she moved in with me was straining, I kept longing for her, her touch, her smile, her laugh but I had to fulfill my duties as a leader. I spoke to Ava every day on the phone and when she told me Uncle Thomas was around I feared that by the time I get home Ava would have left.

Uncle Thomas can be very rough, brutal.  He doesn't choose his words and he feels women are beneath us men, I kept worrying that he would mistreat her especially since he was staying in our house so I spoke to my dad but he assured me that Ava could handle it

"she's not fragile son. Your mate is stronger than you think and besides she's still going to face criticism as time goes to maybe an encounter with Thomas will help toughen her up more" he said when I spoke to him

At dinner I couldn't help but look at my mate, sitting opposite to her gave me a good view of her, she looked exhausted so I could tell she was having early mornings and late nights but none of that took her beauty away, she still looked gorgeous.

As we made our way to our bedroom after dinner I couldn't keep my hands to myself, as soon as I closed the door I grabbed her by the waist and closed the distance between us

"I've missed you" I whispered "all of you"

"I missed you too" she said

From there on our hands and bodies did the talking for the rest of the night
