Just then we heard someone walking up the front steps. Two-Bit pulled me behind him and pushed Steve out of the way to make sure that he was the first thing Ponyboy would see. I was eager to meet Ponyboy since Darry had informed me moments ago that I was only about a month younger than him. He had just turned 15. The door sprang open and the boy who stepped in took my breath away. He was the spitting image of Soda, but his hair looked thicker, his eyes deeper, and his lips softer. "What's going on Two-Bit?" Ponyboy asked.

"I got you a gift..... I think you're gonna like it..." He said almost singing, looking up, and smiling.

"Is it food? Cause' I'm starving!" He said in an eager voice.

I couldn't help but giggle from behind Two-Bit. Ponyboy heard my giggle and was taken back. "I got you a girlfriend!" Two-Bit exclaimed stepping sideways.

Pony turned red as a tomato and looked down at the ground. "Ain't she perty?" Two-Bit asked trying to embarrass Ponyboy even more. "Well ain't she?" He asked a little louder this time.

"Um.. y-yeah I-I-I don't know." Ponyboy stuttered and fumbled.

The whole gang broke out in laughter and Pony still stood there bright red and smiling. "I wasn't in on this just so ya know," I said to him. "I didn't know I was going to be given as a gift," I said turning to Two-Bit. "I'm Amber, Amber Peterson."

"She'll be staying with us for as long as she needs to," Darry said directing it at both Ponyboy and me.

I was glad that I was finally welcome somewhere. "She's less than a month younger than you Pony." Said Soda hugging me. "She's gonna be my  kid sister." He said full of pride.

"Well hi, Amber, it's nice to meet you," Ponyboy said holding out his hand while his red hue slowly faded away.

I shook it feeling his warm, soft hand. Pony's smile was stunning. Prize-winning. Jaw dropping. I couldn't help but stare at him. "Let's eat!" Yelled Steve.

Darry made grilled chicken, but it wasn't there for long. Man, can those boys eat. All through dinner I caught Pony staring at me, but quickly looked away whenever I glanced at him. After everyone had eaten, Steve found chocolate cake in the fridge and everyone had a piece and sat in the living room to watch some dumb TV show. On one couch sat Two-Bit, Soda, and Dally. Darry sat on the floor and I sat in the middle of Steve and Ponyboy. Darry turned away from the TV to look at me and Ponyboy "Pony, go show Amber to the guest room."

Pony looked at me with those beautiful grey-ish eyes. I nodded and he smiled. "Come on, follow me." He said with his kind, smooth voice. I followed him through a hallway and into a vacant room. The room was small with a queen bed, a desk, a dresser, and a window showing the front yard.  Ponyboy ran and jumped on the bed bouncing up and down until he settled. I laughed and he motioned me towards the bed as he sat up. I then ran and jumped on, like Pony, bouncing up and down and laughing. His laugh made me want to make him laugh all the time just so I could hear it forever. When I sat up we were right next to each other and our faces just inches. I started blushing and he obviously noticed because when I looked down and broke eye contact, he stood up. "The bathroom is next door. Only one bathroom in the house, so be ready to share is with all the gang and some." We both chuckled.

"I can't wait!" I exclaimed sarcastically throwing my hands up in defeat.

"Hey one more thing," Pony said before leaving the room. I nodded, excited just to hear him talk more. "You got any money?"

I reached into my jeans pocket and pulled out what cash I had. "About 2 dollars, why?"

"Cause' you're gonna need clothes tomorrow, and the next day, and the next. There is only so much a washer and dryer can do ya know."

I once again laughed. He stared at me for a little while. It was nice, to feel his eyes on me, but when I shifted, he seemed to snap out of it. "See ya later, Amber." Pony said hurriedly, regaining his embarrassed red hue and shutting the door.

"See ya later Pony," I said in a whisper.

I laid back on my bed and thought of Ponyboy. What the hell is going on? This is absolutely insane! I'm staying in some strangers house in 1965! What am I doing? I don't know I thought to myself, but whatever is happening..... I love it.
