"Focus on the step in front of you, not the whole staircase."

"Appi look at Yahya." said Mehwish to Firdaus.

"Yahya what are you up to?" asked Firdaus as she and Mehwish were preparing to make a trifle.

"He's eating the cake." complained Mehwish while Firdaus turned her head to their side and found Yahya picking up the cake while smirking at Mehwish.

"Yahyaaa." said Firdaus as she folded her hand on her chest.

"Just this one appi." pleaded Yahya and Firdaus moved her head as a yes.
Yahya winked at Mehwish and Mehwish out of nowhere snatched the piece of cake and gulped in.

"And this is for that." said she while pushing Yahya away from the kitchen. Firdaus smiled at them fondly.

As the days were passing by, she was loving the family more and more. It didn't feel like she wasn't a part of the family but Infact it felt like she had grown up among these people. From taking care that she had all the things she needed to making sure that she learned about Islam more and more, they devoted all their free time for her. She had learned within a week how to offer Salah and was on the process to learn Arabic. Their younger siblings had worked lik a real teacher for her. She had got a family which she had craved all her life and this was only possible when she decided to let go off the past.

Messed up pasts are grievous but the past which messes the future too is a grave loss indeed. One needs to let go off the past to be a part of a brighter future. It may sometimes feel that the world is full of sadness but sadness do turn into happiness, light do struggle through the darkness, sick do recover after sickness, rain do wet the earth after drought and flowers do blossom after every autumn because after every hardship comes relief and this is stated none other but by the creator himself.

"Firdaus." said her mother which snapped her out of her day dream. It was actually a silent Thanks to the creator, remembering how he bestowed her with the best when she literally had nothing.

"Sorry. You were saying something?" said Firdaus as she smiled at her step mother.

"She's saying you can live here no more. You need to go from here." said Mehwish after shooing Yahya away and closing the kitchen door behind him.

"Did I do anything wrong?" said Firdaus as she gulped a lump in her throat. It was just few days since she had started loving her life, she had started loving the people around her, she had started to get a new direction. She wouldn't bear to go back to that phase of life where the only thing she wished was death.

"This isn't your home. Abbu may have brought you here but eventually you need to leave soon." said Mehwish while Firdaus heart started to throb harder as it was before. She wasn't ready to face one more heartbreak, she wasn't in a position to meet the realities of life where everything seemed like a fairytale. She had thought that bad step mothers and daughters was a part of cliche after meeting her own but did she really misinterpret them while they were averse?

"Excuse me." she said while leaving behind the two as she was on a verge to spill off the precious pearls of her eyes while her step mother caught her hand before she could leave and said "Where are you going?"

Firdaus kept quiet without turning back to them because the pearls which she wished to hide was now spilling on the ground countlessly while Arbish entered suddenly.

"What happened?" she gasped looking at Firdaus. "Are you okay?" she asked coming closer to her.

"This is all because of Mehwish, she cannot keep her mouth shut as always." said their mother as she left the hand of Firdaus.
