"Asia, you have another solo. The name of your solo is 'Ready for War'." Miss Abby announces, "Melanie, I'm gonna see if you've learned your lesson, you're gonna do a solo this week and it entitled 'Stay'." I smile, "So Maddie, you have another solo this week. The name of your song is 'I'm Trying'. Chloe? You will be doing a solo this week. The name of your routine is 'Am I Here to Stay?'. All right, moms, you're dismissed. Girls, spread apart. Let's warm up."

On the group number Maddie, Brooke, Chloe and I are on the Conservative side and Kendall, Paige, Nia and Asia are on the Liberal side.

(This is just for the dance.)

"And with that I'm gonna let you go." Miss Abby says and we all leave.

Once we're outside, I go to studio B for my solo private.

"Hey Melanie, so as you know your solo is called 'Stay' and it's contemporary-jazz. On the choreography most of it is already easy stuff for you but we need to work more on the ending." Gia tells me and I start learning my solo.

Next couple of days, pretty good, except Miss Abby yelling at me for my face.

"Have you guys competed against each other for a while?" Asia asks.

"We used to compete like every week." Maddie tells her.

"Since like, yeah." Chloe adds, "The first competition season we'd always have solos against each other."

"Every week." Maddie says.

Asia has to go perform right after that and I go over my dance in my head.

"Now entering the stage, is number 18 'Stay'." The announcer says and I go on stage.

Waiting for the time to pass you by
Hope the winds of change will change your mind
I could give a thousand reasons why
And I know you, and you've got to

Make it on your own, but we don't have to grow up
We can stay forever young
Living on my sofa, drinking rum and cola
Underneath the rising sun
I could give a thousand reasons why
But you're going, and you know that

All you have to do is stay a minute
Just take your time
The clock is ticking, so stay
All you have to do is wait a second
Your hands on mine
The clock is ticking, so stay

All you have to do is
All you have to do is stay

Won't admit what I already know
I've never been the best at letting go
I don't wanna spend the night alone
Guess I need you, and I need to

Make it on my own, but I don't wanna grow up
We can stay forever young
Living on my sofa, drinking rum and cola
Underneath the rising sun
I could give a million reasons why
But you're going, and you know that

All you have to do is stay a minute
Just take your time
The clock is ticking, so stay
All you have to do is wait a second
Your hands on mine
The clock is ticking, so stay

All you have to do is
All you have to do is stay

All you have to do is stay
So stay, yeah

All you have to do is stay a minute
Just take your time
The clock is ticking, so stay
All you have to do is wait a second
Your hands on mine
The clock is ticking, so stay
All you have to do is stay

I leave the stage and I'm greeted by the three girls. Maddie and Chloe have to go perform their solos, so Asia and I are left alone.

"You looked amazing dancing out there." Asia tells me and I smile.

"Thank you!" I smile, "I think this is the first time you see me dance?"

"Except on rehearsal." Asia answers. "But you know." The two of us laugh.

"We have to go to vote for the thingy of Maddie and Chloe." I tell her.

"Yeah." She smiles, "Come on!"

The two of us go to the audience and vote.

I'm really worried because I don't wanna let Miss Abby down, but I think that Asia danced better than me today.

"In the petite solo division. Third place, entry number 12, 'Get Up Off of that Thing'." The announcer says, "The second and first place are separated by only a tenth of a point." Asia and I look at each other, "Second place is entry number 18, 'Stay'."

I stand up as everyone cheers and go receive my award. Asia's called for first place.
