Aelin

"Whenever we see the pup again, we should congratulate him for finding some of the most wanted criminals from my kingdom," Manon declared, leaving the room where the three dead witches they found were.

Everyone stopped and stared at the Witch Queen.

"So you know them," Aelin confirmed. Who hadn't had this much anxiety in a long time. It's been five days since Fenrys had gone missing, and Manon finally got to Ornyth to check out the bodies.

The witch bitch leaned herself against the stone wall of the corridor and said, "Yes. Often referred to as the Three Ravens, they have been a raging pain in my ass for the past four years." She picked at her iron nails. "They are some of the people who deny my right to rule. But they have always been assassins for hire to begin with."

"Assassins?" Lysandra asked, who had stuck around with Aedion, and were going to head to Adarlan and then the Southern Continent the next day. The Lochans had come up for two days, panicked like everyone else, including Lorcan which slightly surprised Aelin, but went back to Perranth yesterday to get a search going in that region.

Manon shrugged. "There are human assassins, Fae ones, witches aren't any different." She pointed back towards the door and laid the corpses. "Those are some of the big and high paying ones. So first I would like to thank the pup for getting them out of my way. And second, in case you hadn't noticed two of their necks were snapped. Even though one of them had a knife in them, that might not have not been what killed them."

"So you're saying....." Rowan drawled, standing beside Aelin.

Another shrug. "That the pup is probably smart enough to not flat out kill, at least all of them, without getting some answers. So the one whose neck wasn't broken he probably killed. But you guys say there were at least five different scents, right? So let's say that Fenrys was targeted, especially you two were away," Manon said, pointing at Rowan and Aelin. "And that they knew that he could fight, to at least some degree. Used these guys as a distraction," she said, jerking her head back towards the door. "And at least one other person showed, probably nullified his magic, knocked him unconscious, or something along those lines. And then killed the other two witches so they wouldn't talk. And we are here now."

Aelin could admit that Manon had just pieced together a little bit more than they had in five minutes. And her cousin must've been thinking the same thing as he said, "You should be a detective."

Manon threw him a wicked grin. "Maybe I'll pick it up as a hobby." She pushed herself off the wall, starting to walk down the hall, but looked at Aelin saying, "Fenrys is smart, chances are they want information out of him, especially given how close you two are. I'll start my own search, but I wouldn't be surprised if he just annoyed him to the point of them releasing him."

Aelin introduced her fingers around her mate's, and breathed, "Yeah."

Manon put her hand on her shoulder, squeezing it some. "He survived the two months of hell with Maeve, he will survive this."

Ignoring that this was probably the most touching moment that Aelin has had and probably will have with the witch, Aelin only nodded faintly slumping on Rowan. Because Aelin knew that he could take physical pain, they all did. But there were still things that were oh so triggering for him. Especially when it came to people touching him without consent or warning. Not when it came to people that he trusted. He never had a problem with hugging or kissing anyone's cheek or playing with the kids. But Aelin was pretty sure that he hadn't told anyone what happened to him after Connall died. And she was also pretty sure that he hasn't slept with anyone because of it since.

But Manon only tossed her hair over her shoulder and declared, "I'm off to find food," stalking down the hall.

"Don't drink anyone's blood please," Aedion called, it not being quite a joke.

Manon shouted back, "Your wine better be good then."
