"Thank you so much, have a good evening." I called out to the security guard before I locked Lorelai's office.
I rushed through the hallways and out the door. I was late. Hopefully Derek saw his supper in the microwave because I knew I was going to be working late. I can't afford to make him upset especially after what happened in the escape room. I don't know what I was thinking.
He was light in complexion with a scruffy beard. His nose was small and round. His lips were calling to me. His eyes told me he saw more than what the normal eye can see. The way he held me and asked if I was okay. He checked up on me. His hands burned like the Jamaican sun. His bodily heat felt like the sand beneath my toes.
I couldn't think such thoughts of him if I was married. I promised through thick and thin, for better or for worse and I'll stick to my vows. He's stuck to his. Derek loves me through it all.
I hopped into my car and drove back home in a rush. The outside lights were on but none of the inside lights were on. I parked the car outside and get out of the car. He must be asleep.
I hope he's eaten. I can't stomach down anything if he hasn't eaten. Derek works for a construction company so he's out in the sun all day and when he comes back home, he's exhausted so the least I can do is prepare his meal for the day.
I unlock the front door and step into the house. I switch on the main light and there's Derek sitting by dinner table with an empty plate. It looks clean, a little too clean.
"Evening, baby." I whisper and close the door. "Did you eat?"
"What food would I eat if you didn't prepare anything?" His striking brown eyes poured fire into my soul and I was stammering.
"Baby, I-- I put your food in the microwave." I was on my way to show him the proof when he shouted. My keys dropped on the floor and followed my bag.
My whole body descended in chills.
"Raeni, I came home to no food! You didn't even leave a note." A tear slipped past me and I swallowed down my fear.
"I thought you'd find it."
"What the fuck do you take me for? An explorer? You have to stop thinking and just know."
I nod my head. "I'm sorry-- "
A plate crashed on the wall beside me. "Look at me when I'm speaking to you!"
