Hunter

I rolled over, seeking the warmth of Harper. I frowned, stretching my arms around the bed to find her fragile body. I sat upright, reaching for the lamp beside me. As the light engulfed the room, there was no sign of Harper. The spot where she was laying next to me was crinkled, indicating that she was here.

My heart rate quickened as I searched my room for her, but found nothing. I roared with anger, my hands starting to shake as I flip the furniture in my room.

She was gone.

-

Harper

My eyes shot open, my bare feet squishing the dried leaves under my toes. My breath caught in my throat, my heart pounding against my rib cage. I looked around me, tall trees surrounding me everywhere I looked. The forest was dark, a grey mist hugging the air.

What was I doing in the middle of a forest?

The trees rustled, making me stumble back in fright. The cold wind smacked against my skin, my eyes snapping towards the sound. I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat, goosebumps rising on my skin. If only I had my wings...

A gush of wind waved past me, causing me to stumble and trip over a log. I squeal, losing balance and falling on the forest floor, dirt and leaves covering my ankles. A small fox appears from the trees, and I curse under my breath for being so paranoid.

It was just a little fox. I smile, trying to gain the fox's attention.

A dark figure suddenly appeared from the mist, my heart sinking down to my chest. The smile was wiped from my face, my eyes widening with horror as the little fox scurries away.

"Hello, little Angel,"

My heart drops, watching as Damien appears from the shadows, a grim look on his face. He smiles wickedly, his hands behind his back as he studies my frightened face. I scatter away from him, my heels digging into the dirt as my back its a tree trunk.

I blink away the tears, "Leave me alone," I croak out, watching as he sighs heavily. Was he the one who brought me here?

"I cannot do that," He pauses, before squinting. "You are much more powerful than you think," He says, studying me. I cowered under his gaze, my brows furrowing. How was a broken Angel powerful without their wings?

I gritted my teeth, "You took my wings. Just Kill me already," I spat, watching as he smiles. He walks over to me, bending down so that our faces were inches apart. My body trembled, watching as he tilted his head.

"Not yet. You may not have any wings, but your powers are growing." He mumbles. I didn't know what he meant by that comment. My powers were limited, all Angels could do was heal. Then it suddenly dawned on me. He wanted to use me as a weapon.

"You will be my secret weapon, Harper," He whispers. I could feel the evil growing inside him, flinching as he tucked a strand behind my ear. I furiously blinked the tears away, shaking my head as I sobbed.

"Shh, my little Angel," I cried harder, before he gripped my ankles, dragging me. I screamed, my nails digging into the dirt. I thrashed around, reaching for tree roots and branches to hold onto. He abruptly dropped my feet, cursing under his breath. I scattered to my feet, my heart pounding against my ribs as my eyes dance along the forest.

Damien was nowhere to be seen, he vanished through the mist.

Strong arms suddenly wrapped around me, meeting a firm chest. I sigh with relief, breathing in Hunter's scent as he cradles my head. He pulls away, cupping my cheeks as he looks at me with worry. "Are you okay?" He worriedly asks, and I couldn't help but break down and start crying.

He scoops me into his arms, not bothering to ask what happened. I couldn't help but feel as if we were being watched, and that's when my eyes scanned across the mist, my breath hitching in my throat.

In the mist, two red eyes were watching us.
