Alice POV

I was laid on the sofa in Alistairs office while Alistair, Mason and Alex all bickered among themselves. Apparently the challenge had to occur the day after it had been issued which meant I had to fight blind since I had accepted it by just nodding. Someone slammed their fist down on the desk which made me flinch and everyone went silent.

"Look Alistair, Mason already admitted he went to hit her and she ducked when she's blind, it shows that she may actually stand a chance against Rosie," Alex said calmly.

"You're lucky you're still standing, after that," Alistair hissed and I could hear Mason gulping, his heart rate quickened and it made me relax knowing that Alistair was willing to defend me. It surprised me to be honest that Mason actually came clean about that. Never in a million years did I think he would own up to it.

"I've apologised about that profusely and I will never go near her again, I thought she attacked Rosie," Mason whined. If I could, I'd of rolled my eyes.

Coward. Wish we could claw his eyes out.

I smirked at that. Would be quite satisfying.

"You're lucky Alice stopped me," Alistair snapped, a mistake on my part probably. Best not screw it up Mason. I let out a low growl and I knew Mason was flinching.

A knock sounded at the door and I could smell the Elder behind it. The smell of decay was getting stronger from him. It actually saddened me, I knew it wouldn't be long before everyone would be saying their goodbyes. I wonder if anyone else could smell it when in their wolf form.

"Come in John," Alistair sighed calming down. I heard the scraping of his chair as he sat down and the click of the door as John entered the room, the smell stung my nose and I pushed it into the corner of the sofa.

"I see your mate still hasn't shifted," he muttered, he sounded disappointed. Why would he be hoping for me to shift? I wonder how much Alistair hoped I would shift.

"No," Alistair replied bluntly, he sounded angry about it. Was he angry with me?

I hope not. Thea sounded hurt and whimpered before she retreated to the back of my mind.

"Hmm, shame," John said, he sounded chirpy now, but I just kept my bandaged face hidden in the back of sofa. "So what do you need? I believe I was summoned?" There was a few minutes of silence before Alex eventually broke it with getting straight to the point.

"We need more information about black wolves and their involvement with vampires? So the childhood stories we are told are they true?" Alex questioned.

"They are actually yes," Johns voice croaked out. I tensed up already sort of knowing this. I was lucky enough to escape them two vampires when I was younger, I wondered what would have happened if they had managed to capture me.

"Well no vampire is getting their hands on her, she's mine!" Alistair growled. I perked my ears up to this and turned my head towards him. Did he mean that?

"Protective aren't we. It is strange that she has a mate, I don't believe there is a record of a black wolf having a mate but then again there has never been a recorded female black wolf, makes me wonder why now," John rasped. His breathing had become uneven with saying so many words. His health had deteriorated the past few days, I liked John he was one of the few that wasn't afraid of me.

"Was Luke ever found?" Mason asked, I tilted my head to hear the answer to this and the room went silent as I waited for the answer. Why had everyone gone silent when they already seen on the database I was the only one missing?
