Alice POV

It must have been at least two hours by now. I could see the sun rising through the branches of the trees. I wasn't entirely sure how much longer Alaric could hold on. He had little to no strength left. Where was Uncle Luke?

Stop fretting he will be here. Thea muttered through my mind. Her words gave me little to no comfort though.

The wildlife in the woods surrounding us had begun to to come to life, birds were chirping around us, rustling stirred on the ground as mice and rabbits came out of their burrows. It seemed peaceful here, quiet. It reminded me of the times I had with Thea back at the cave. I missed Thea.

"I can smell your misery," croaked Alaric, "he's not far away."

"How can you kn-" before I could even finish my sentence my uncle came hurtling through the trees and crashing into the clearing. Causing all the peace that I originally felt with the wildlife to slip away. I was relieved to see him but at the same time I felt anger towards him. "What took you so long!?"

"Sorry hit a few snags along the way" he shrugged as he shifted back.

He went to crouch down in front of Alaric and held one of the blood bags above him before ripping open the bottom of it. The blood dripped down into his mouth which Alaric lapped up greedily, after a few moments he ripped the bag from Luke's hands and sucked on it like an animal. His eyes grew wild and crazed. He was squeezing the bag for every last drop there was.

"I need more!" he growled out in to Luke's face. Luke didn't even flinch.

"Nope, just the one, you're rationing," Luke grinned at him. "Think of it as an introduction back to the good stuff."

"No, give me it!"

"If you even dare to ask me again, I'll just pour it into the river that I just passed," Luke threatened. Alaric growled at him looking ready to pounce at him. It was incredible to be honest, that one blood bag had changed his entire appearance. His haggard skin had gone to being perfectly smooth, he looked around twenty five years old now! Not bad looking either. He had shaggy black hair still but his eyes had brightened and were now full of lust and hunger rather than the dull red they were before. Was this what a new born vampire was like?

"Alaric do you remember the story you told me?" I questioned as I bit my lip. He spun round to face me with narrowed eyes. He looked to be listening but I don't think he was fully focused. "Can you remember the strength you saw in my uncle?"

His face instantly softened at my words as memories must have flooded back into his mind.

"I'm sorry, to both of you, blood has toxic traits, its like a heroin," he sighed as he composed himself. He tugged his cloak around himself as he wandered off to the edge of the clearing.

"Hey where you off too," Luke yelled as he chased after him.

"I think it would be best if we went our separate ways from here," Alaric mumbled, it was clear he was embarrassed by his actions but I felt no hate towards him. It saddened me that he felt he had to leave.

"Not a chance, you're coming with us," Luke announced.

"Where are we going?" I asked quickly before Alaric could argue back.

"We have some mess to clean up first, and then were going home," my Uncle informed us. "So were going on a trip to visit your mate."

Alex POV

Alpha, there are some rogues patrolling the border.  One of my Pack warriors informed me.

I let out a loud groan as I ran my hand down my face. It was just one thing after another. It was only yesterday that the vampires had come asking for Alistair. I'm sure that must have had something to do with Alice. I couldn't help but worry about her sometimes. I wonder how she was doing?

How many are there? I questioned him.

Three we think. One of them doesn't smell right though. I'm not sure if  they are a wolf.

I'll be right there, where are you?

East border, bout 2 miles north of the pond.

Don't attack unless they cross the border, understood?

Yes Alpha.

It didn't take me long to reach them at all after I shifted into my large brown wolf. I was larger than most wolves but I guess that was because I had become stronger after I became Alpha.

Two of my pack warriors were stood guard in their wolf forms right at the edge of the border whilst Mason was just stood there chilled out, unshifted.

"Seems our little rogues are frightened," Mason sniggered. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at him, his sense of humour was lacking. My pack warrior who alerted me wasn't wrong about the scents. There was something mixed in with them that didn't smell right. What was that?

"Maybe their here to join our cause?" I proposed after shifting back. I grabbed some shorts from a nearby stash that we had dotted around the territory. It made things easier that way so weren't just walking around naked.

"With the vampires showing up yesterday, and now this weird scent of theirs, I don't think so," Mason hit back as he took a few steps towards the border. "Come out, come out where ever you are!" He shouted out into the forest. Good old Mason.

Alpha I think someone's coming. One of the warriors mind linked me.

Some of the bushes rustled ahead of us and I could hear some bickering amongst a few people. Was that the smell of a vampire mixed in with them? No there couldn't be, there was a fresh scent of something sweet amongst them though. Vampires don't smell sweet. This smell like was oranges and roses mixed in together.

"Show yourselves!" I commanded.

I really wasn't prepared for what came next.

Bright purple eyes looked deep into mine, her white long hair lay matted on her head but I still couldn't help but think she looked beautiful. She looked like a goddess. My wolf howled just one word through my mind.

Mate.
