Alice POV

Uncle Luke was indeed waiting for me at the bottom of the mountain, I wasn't entirely sure how Alaric had managed to avoid all the vampires on the castle grounds, but within five minutes of me shifting he had led me out the castle walls and down the mountain sides. Being bare footed and not being used to walking two footed was hard work. I fell multiple times. He refused to let me shift back though. I think he was scared that I could easily kill him in that form. I wasn't sure how it was fair though, he could kill me now surely?

"Uncle Luke are you okay!" I cried out happily as I saw him. He hadn't changed much in the past year. He was still wearing the same torn clothes he wore before but he still looked as strong. He gave me a small smile before sadness filled his eyes.

"You've grown up to be beautiful you know that?" He swept me up into his arms and gave me a huge hug. My face smushed into hairy chest and his arms squishing me just like when I was younger. Finally.

"I'm so..so sorry!" I muffled into his chest, tears threatened to fall from my eyes as I pushed my way out of his arms to look up at him. "I wanted to help you! I really did but I was just so scared! I was scared what they might do to you if I tried." I looked away from him then, ashamed. Thea stayed quiet in my mind. She was saddened too by our actions. We had wanted nothing more than to help Uncle Luke but instead we were just an obediant little wolf to that slimey vampire.

"Its okay my little Alpha to be, were here now, and Alaric here is on our side," he lifted my head up to face him, a nickname he used to call me which made me feel all fuzzy inside. A reassuring smile was plastered across his face and he gave me a nod. He then looked over to Alaric and took in a deep breath. "You've done good my friend."

"Anything for you," Alaric rasped out. I tilted my head in confusion about to question why a vampire would even help out two wolves but I didn't get a chance. A siren went off in the distance and this was our que to get as far away as possible. The vampires now knew we were gone, this meant we were now the hunted.

I turned around to see my Uncle had now shifted into his wolf, he was much bigger than mine. It was quite intimidating to be honest. Taking in a deep breath, I concentrated on my own wolf and shifted back. Ruffling out my fur I gently grazed my body up against my uncles. We was free and it was going to stay that way.

I then saw Alaric climbing onto Lukes back which looked rather odd but it made sense. We would be able to travel faster and before I knew it we were quickly dashing through the forest surrounding us.

I had no idea where we were travelling too. I just tried to keep pace with my Uncle. He was much faster than me, he was larger though and looked stronger. A definite Alpha.

Alex POV

Looking down at my desk I groaned out at all the paper work that was piling up. Who knew that being Alpha would be so much hard work. It had been about ten months now since the elders had decreed that I should be Alpha after Alistair had disappeared with Rosie. I hadn't even needed to challenge him like Mason suggested. He just disappeared. Was very weird. I was surprised I was chosen considering Mason was Beta, it would usually be the Beta that would step up if there was no one else. So this was seen as highly unusual but the whole pack approved and Mason stayed as my Beta.

Unsurprisingly I was still yet to find my Luna which put strain on me. I feared I would have to taken a chosen mate, I would much prefer to just stay mate less and even Theos agreed with that but the high council was pushing for me to pick a warrior due to the coming war with the vampires. Now that they had two black wolves, we had to be prepared for anything.

A knock sounded at my office door and Mason entered straight after with a menacing smirk. I rolled my eyes and knew he had just spent a thrilling night with his mate. Yeah that's right. He found his mate. Suzie her name is. Sweet little thing, nothing like Mason but she can be quick to have a temper and the strength to match it.

"What's up Mase?" I queried as I looked back down to my desk. It was littered with profiles of wolves who wanted to join our pack. Since Alistair had left, other packs had weirdly been wanting to merge with us. Warriors who didn't believe in their current Alpha, even some rogues who now wanted to become part of a pack. Of course rogues had to be tested and trialed.

"Oh nothing, just coming down from a high after a night with Suzie," he grinned as he relaxed into his chair. I sneered at his words, all he did was brag since getting his mate. It was getting tiresome. Suzie told him off all the time for it, so if she heard him now he would definitely be getting an ear full right now. "Any good candidates?" He changed the subject quickly when he realised my annoyance as I narrowed my eyes at him.

"A few," I replied bluntly to him. I slid some profiles his way for him to look at as I leaned back in my chair. Glancing upwards a sense of displeasure ran through my body went I noticed the bear sitting in my bookcase before it was replaced with sadness. "Do you think Alice is okay?"

"You realise this is all happening because of her?" Mason muttered as he read through the papers. That wasn't really true. It was Alistair who called the vampires, we should have protected her.

"I don't believe that, she fled, she looked so weak as a human," I sighed as I leaned on my desk. For the past year me and my wolf moped over her. If I was Alpha back then I would have done everything to protect her, she was part of this pack.

"The vampires would have bent her to their will, like they do to all the black wolves, black wolves live to serve the vampires, we know that," Mason shrugged as he passed me back the papers. "Seem like good candidates, strong warriors, the one rogue would need to be watched like the others were." I nodded my head in agreement. Was a good thing we had extended our land like intended, so many more houses had been built and we even had to build a second pack house.

"I think we need to find more lore on these black wolves, ask each pack on what they have on black wolves, each pack may have something different on them, rumours are mis-translated when passed on and can be altered," I explained trying to reason with him. I seemed to have alot of faith in Alice. I didn't believe that small girl could be evil. She refused to kill Rosie, she wanted her to submit. If black wolves were as bad as they were, surely she would have just straight up killed her and the rest of us?
