Luke's POV

"What are you even looking for?" Alaric grumbled as he kicked a broken and burned wooden plank that was once part of my old pack house. I couldn't help but just glare at him. There wasn't much left but the bottom foundations. It was pretty much completely all burned down. Along with every house that was on my pack lands.

"I had a few history books dating back to the beginning of when the first Werewolves, it explains how they were created by the Moon goddess, they might have something about the Black wolves, at least I hope they do, I never finished them," I mumbled as I started rummaging through all the rubble that remained of my old office. Where was it!? I ripped all the broken planks from the floor as I looked for the secret compartment that was placed on the floor that I used to hide them in. They were valuable after all, it took me ages to get my hands on them after all. After my first shift I had to find out as much information I could about black wolves. It was a dangerous mess. My pack was loyal in protecting me, but someone must have betrayed me. That was how the vampires found me. Controlled me. Used me.

Anger burned through me as the memories flashed through me. Pain stabbed through my heart as I recalled the memory of betraying my niece and causing her to be captured by them leeches. I slumped down giving up looking and let out a huge sigh.

"You okay?" Alaric questioned. I could see concern written on his face. His blazing red eyes bore into mine. I couldn't believe I was even trusting one of them now.

"I have so many questions, I need so many answers, I betrayed my Niece, I literally have no idea what I'm even doing," I mumbled out. "My whole pack is destroyed and it was all cause of me. Because I was a black wolf."

"Rather than dwelling on the past, maybe you could try and try and work on the future? Your Niece needs you, you can help her, you've broke free of the vampires control, I don't know how but you have," Alaric rambled on, I tried to pay attention to what he was say but I was feeling that shit about things it was hard to concentrate.

She needs us Alaric. Storm whined.

My wolf rarely spoke if at all since the vampires broke us. He was right though.

If only I could find these books, its the first place I need to start. I needed to find them!

"Where did you last see them?" Alaric piped up once again. I let out a dep sigh and got back up onto my feet.

"I'm positive I put them under the floorboards, there's a few planks that lift up to a secret compartment. Pretty sure only I know about it, so they should still be there," I explained to him. If only I could remember which part of the office it was at!

"Can't you sniff them out," Alaric mused, there was a mocking grin peaking from under his hood.

"It doesn't work like that," I growled at him. "How come you don't know anything anyway, you vampires are the ones who controlled us for hundreds of years." I slight snarl came out after my words. His body flinched backwords and his face screwed up. My words clearly hit a nerve.

"It was Candide who mostly dealt with the Black wolves, some higher ranking Vampires would get to have one but lately we only ever had one at a time until Alice, that's the extent of my knowledge," Alaric mumbled. His red eyes lowered down to the ground, I could see he was still weak from the lack of blood he was drinking. He was drinking the blood bags but he was ensuring he wasn't going through them too quickly.

I didn't respond to his answer. I just continued to rummage through the wreck of my office. Fucking vampires.

Finally reaching my desk I saw that it was flipped onto its back. Where my desk would usually be the outlines of the compartment stood out. My eyebrows furrowed at the realisation that anyone could of seen that. No no no no. Please still be there.

Dashing across I ripped open the floor not caring if it broke the hinges. My heart pounded in my chest, praying to the moon goddess that books were still there. I didn't know where else to go if they weren't there. No other packs were going to have answers. Were they? I had told an Elder once from the Crescent Moon pack about me, I wonder if he's still alive. He may know something.

My eyes scanned the darkness of the hole that lay deep under the floorboards and I plunged m arm down into it. Please be there, please, please, please!

Feeling around with my hands, the coldness swept across my fingers, dust and ash had settled around the ground that had managed to escaped through the cracks. My hands shook with anticipation.

That was when my fingers brushed across a cotton cloth. My eyes opened wide and a sigh of relief escaped my lungs. They were safe, they were here!

Grasping hold of the package I quickly hauled them out the hole and gently placed them down onto the ground.

I chewed on the inside of my cheek as I unwrapped the books, the first book stood out at me. It stood out at me like a sore thumb. It was almost looking at me like, "Where the fuck have you been for the past ten years dumbass." I couldn't help but laugh to myself.

"What's so funny? Are they the books?" Alaric asked as he wandered over to get a glimpse.

"Yeah, we've got them, now lets hope there is something useful in them!" I mumbled as I wrapped them back up to keep them protected.

"Where to now?" Alaric asked. Good question, we couldn't stay here. The building wasn't secure, there was a lot of rebuilding to do and now wasn't the time.

"Could head back to Alice? See how she is getting on," I mumbled as I looked down at the books. I thought back to the elder.

"I don't exactly think I will be welcomed with open eyes," Alaric pondered looking rather worried. He wasn't wrong, from the last encounter it didn't exactly go very well. I still didn't feel very comfortable with leaving Alice alone there either. Even if Alex was her mate. Besides she was still the heir to my pack too if I was able to fix this mess that was. This was turning into one big mess.

"Well we will sort that when it comes to that," I grumbled as I picked the books up from the floor, we headed back out outside to see that the moon had now risen. Alaric threw back his hood now that he could stand comfortably in the night sky. Even though the sun didn't burn him it was still uncomfortable. Poor guy.
