When dinner ended, the twins kissed me goodnight and everyone else went their separate ways for the night. I was stuck with Sapphire for a couple of hours and I felt a tad bit uncomfortable with her.

"Oh stop being so tense, I don't bite." She told me for the third time. We were standing outside, sorting out the area where the competition would take place. Sofia was busy inside with the food, maids and other stuff.

I relaxed my shoulders, giving the vampire a tight lipped smile. Her telling me that she did not bite was not helping at all because I knew from the marks on Damien's body that it was not true. As much as I would like to question her about him, it was not my place to do so. I'm already disliked by the first wife, it's better to stay in Sapphire's good books.

I might need her someday.

"I'm okay," I told her, looking around the large empty field. The moonlight shone brightly, allowing me to see everything clearly. "What are we here to do?"

"I'm here to command people to decorate this place and make it competition worthy. You have another task that I feel suits you best." She said, looking down at me. She was super slender and tall, probably more than six feet but she still managed to wear high heels and be shorter than her husband.

"What task is that?" I asked, following her to a small door at the side of the mansion.

"Alexander was supposed to do it but I figured that he might need a little bit of help." She said with a distressed sigh. I closed my eyes when I heard his name. "He's in here?" I asked hesitantly.

"Yes, I hope you won't mind helping him. You are just the best person for the job." She asked me, placing her hand over her non-existent heart. I couldn't believe it. Sapphire was trying to get me alone with Alexander! Did he ask her to do this?

"I do not think it's a good idea... Sei and Silas would smell him on me and that would start drama none of us need." I told her, staring right into her eyes.

"Why would they smell him? It's not like you're going to be touching Alex or anything. Right?" She asked me with a small smirk. My mouth gaped open.

This woman—

"R-right of course! That is not what I meant." I quickly said, my cheeks flushing. Sapphire raised her eyebrows at me and smiled, "exactly, so why would they get angry at something they don't have to worry about?"

I looked away. She has no idea that her son fed on me and that the twins want to murder him. At the same time, I can't help but think that she's trying to play match maker with me and Alexander.

"You're aware that I'm human, right?" I asked her softly. She nodded at me, her smile not fading. "So why do you want me closer to your son?"

"Darling... You have every right to say no to helping him but just know that I will not be answering to you anytime soon, okay?"

"Oh... Sorry." I apologized, my shoulders slumping. "It's not that I don't want to help him. He did something that hurt me and I just can't seem to trust him right now."

Sapphire nodded in understanding, "Let him make it up to you then."

But that's the problem Sapphire, I can't. Sei and Silas would be devastated.

She placed her hand on my shoulder, her red eyes staring into my soul. "Sei and Silas are the reason aren't they? They don't like him?"

I nodded slowly, starting to understand why she said what she did earlier. That they were controlling me. It's not that they tell me to stay away from him or make me, it's that everything I do has to be for them. That's why she thought that.
