Lua's POV

The room was silent, as I walked in and took my spot on the table. I could feel the burning stare of the king and queen on my face, as I reached out the grab the handle for the fruit.

I sniffed, pausing at my actions when I smelled something. I quickly resumed, to make sure they didn't suspect anything was off.

The food, there was something different with the scent of the food. I stared at the fruit splattered around my plate; tiny, almost invisible, specks of purple were randomly scattered around it.

I contained my shock, as I felt for my magic. I could feel it slowly coming back to me, there wasn't as much as there was before but it was steadily and surely re-filling. I wasn't going to lose it again.

I pushed the plate away, raising my gaze to the disgusting mongrels. "I'm not really hungry," I said.

"Do we care? Eat your food, child," The king boomed and my mind flashed to the room in the basement and the weapons hung like pictures on the wall. I remembered the pain and the terror and could feel my flame flickering.

I picked up my fork, with a pit of melon skewered on it, slowly raising it to my mouth.

If I didn't do this they were going to take me down there again. The pain, the agony; could I go through that again?

Coward.

 Pathetic.

But amongst the insults thrown around my head like rocks, I heard Emily's voice - "Don't let them break you.

"For everyone."

The fork stopped right before the cursed fruit touched my lips, -"No," I clamped down, putting the fork down.

"No?" The queen said, "Should I remind you where you are going to go if you disobey us?"

The room flashed. The silence, the numbing cold.

I shut it out.

Before they could blink, I heated the knife on the table and flung it towards the king. Not pausing to see what was going to happen, I heated the fork and hurtled it towards the queen with equal speed and force.

My energy was already depleting quick, but I couldn't stop here. With the remaining strength inside me, I sucked up all the air inside the room, taking away the thing they need most. It was a trick I had learned a while back, but was too stupid and lost in the adrenaline before to think of and apply.

I finally looked to see if any damage was done, and was delightfully shocked. The knife had embedded itself into the king's shoulder and was sizzling the skin around it from the heat I had it scorching with. He was clawing at his skin, his mouth agape as he tried to get air into his lungs. The queen, however, managed to avoid getting stabbed with the fork but was scraped along her perfect cheekbone, line blood running down her pale skin. But I could see it calmly being healed. To my great misfortune, she wasn't blubbering like a fish either, instead, there was an icy rage in her eyes, her face set in stone as she stared at me.

She waved her hand and suddenly that invisible force was wrapping its hands around my throat. cutting away my air.

Just as calmly as her, I stared at her in the eyes as I used my little bit of fire to set my body aflame, not burning me, but burning anything that touched it. It was something I had thought up, whilst I was pondering and staring at the sky throughout the long night.

Could it be hurt like normal fae?

I felt the hands loosen, but not let go.

Shit. I wasn't hot enough, I scraped up the very crumbs of my flame to raise the temperature but the force didn't budge.
