"dude, i get why you dropped out, but i gotta admit, it's weird as fuck not having you hanging out in the dorm with me and shit." aiden told me as i walked shiloh down the sidewalk.

"yeah, i get you," i mumbled as i adjusted my airpod. "i miss you and joslyn's annoying asses though."

"we're not annoying," she grumbled. "but we miss you too, homie."

i sent billie a text that i was coming back to the apartment. usually, she went on the walks with me and shiloh, but she was tired today and didn't feel like getting out of bed at the moment. understandable.

"hell yeah. how are y'all?"

"bro!" she yelled through the phone. "she's pissed at me!"

i furrowed my brows. "for real? why?"

"okay, so i got a new dorm mate this semester, right? and she's pretty as hell. well, we hooked up or whatever. joslyn found out and has been practically ghosting me since then! and when she is talking to me, she's yelling at me! like, we're literally in an open relationship; why is she getting mad that i hooked up with someone?"

"it kinda seems like that's the problem," i sucked my teeth. "she probably does not want to be in an open relationship anymore. i mean, i could kinda tell that way back in may, dude."

"i don't like being tied down though," she complained in a whine. "but i don't wanna tell her that, cause, like, i love her and i don't wanna upset her."

my face scrunched up in confusion. "wait— when's the last time you actually was tied down?"

"uhh," she thought for a moment. "when i was, like, seventeen or some shit."

"then how do you know you don't like it still? that was almost five years ago. a lot can change in five years, aiden."

she let out a sigh. "because i'm not good at committing to shit! what if we do end up doing, like... a full on, committed relationship, and i mess it up by cheating or some shit? i can't afford that, jj."

"i mean, i'm not saying to do that, but i don't know... you just needa talk to her. work through this." i told her softly.

i walked down the hallway to my apartment, getting my keys out. "you just gotta be patient, communicate, all that shit, and things will work out... hopefully."

"bitch, the fuck you mean hopefully?" she asked loudly.

"not everything is meant to be." i sighed, placing my keys on the counter. i bent down, taking shiloh's leash off of her collar.
