WHEN I was a kid, my father used to sneak me out of the castle and into the human realm. He didn't do this very often but when he did, I knew I would learn something and have a good time. There was nothing I cherished more than traveling.

He would take me to small towns then cities and tell me stories about his youth. At the time, I didn't understand why he did it.

Now, I do.

By then, I had already been betrothed to Prince Aziel. My dearest father, who loved me to the moon and back,  didn't want that for me. He wanted me to find love — from my mate. He knew that would never happen unless I ran away.

So, he showed me a place I could go.

He always told me magnificent stories and only ever showed me the best things of the human realm. He made me fall in love with it.

I loved the human realm so much I tried to visit it regularly. It got to a point when I was convinced I would leave my own family. I loved them so much it hurt--but being married to a man I didn't know or love hurt more. I couldn't spend eternity with that.

When I fell through the lake, I thought it was from a spell of bad luck. Now I'm starting to believe it was the complete opposite. What if it was what destiny wanted? What if I had something — or someone — in the human realm that needed me?

The thoughts lingered in my mind, growing stronger by the minute.

Prince Aziel might have scared me and forced me to hide but I could thank him for one thing. He made me free.

If it weren't for him, I would have never been amongst werewolves, and I wouldn't have had the opportunity to be independent.

I woke up the next morning feeling prepared for the day ahead of me. After seeing Alpha Gabriel the night before and having him order me to leave my room at mealtimes, I thought I would be angry. Yet, all I could feel was excitement at the prospect of seeing him again.
