"I still don't understand. How can Shadowhunters be better than...than what you people call Mundanes," Clary says when the groups returns to the Institute

"Because we protect humans," Isabelle says

"You're right," Clary says turning to her and going her a cold look "Humans, you protect humans. You left Simon and Sofia all alone in the van. Great job guys you rock,"

"There is some truth to the idea that human beings should have a modicum of common sense," Alexander says

"Alexander not now," Izzy says looking to her brother and then to Evangeline who was pissed at her.

Isabelle felt bad, she shouldn't have left the, alone especially her niece, her own blood.

"Look, that won't do anything to Simon and Sofia," Jace tried to reassure Clary "They just wanted to draw you out, they want the cup and they think you have it,"

"But why do they think that? Why does everyone think that," Clary says "what my mom lies to me my entire life but wait there's a magic cup, like, the planet Bongo, but don't tell anyone, what are we supposed to do now,"

"We have to report the Clave," Alexander says automatically

"Great," Jace says

"They have to know we've learned about Valentine," Alexander insisted

"What, that's he's my father and Evangeline's brother in law, great fine, tell them what good does that do Simon and Sofia." Clary says

"Clary it's all connected, the vamps want the cup," Jace says

"Why, it makes new Shadowhunters," Clary says

"Nobody wants Valentine forming an army loyal to himself," Alexander says

"Plus, it controls demons," Izzy says

"They'll propose a trade, Simon and Sofia for the cup," Jace says

"So vampires will trade Simon and Sofia for the cup and Valentine will trade my mother for the cup," Clary says "Either way Evangeline and I lose people we love. What if I just toss it up in the air and let them fight it out among themselves,"

"So this doesn't matter to you," Alexander says

"Yes of course, it matters," Clary says looking to Jace "Listen...when you saved my life and Evangeline's life. I put my trust in you now I need you to put your trust in me. I can't turn into what you are overnight."

"It's true, she was raised as a mundane," Izzy says

"What are you her spokesman now," Alexander says rolling his eyes

"Will you shut the hell up Alexander," Evangeline says angrily after not talking for a while

Alexander was shocked hearing his sister says this to him but he couldn't say anything. His sister had lost her daughter and it was partially Isabelles fault and his too. He cared for his niece and he should have kept her safe but he didn't and now his niece was in danger.
