You couldn't help the way you feel, let alone, you couldn't help the way your body feel all in all.

While Taylor was at the studios this day, making final preparations for The Tortured Poets Department album, you stayed behind promising to get some housework done for her while she was gone. That was the plan, until you woke up this morning. As you wake up this morning, you knew that there was no way you would be getting anything done.

Not a chance in hell.

That made you feel like a terrible girlfriend, but as you were fighting a fever, every step you take is agonizing and almost impossible. That only weakened you. Luckily, you were able to make it down from your shared bedroom to the couch downstairs with a pillow and blanket in hand. This was showing you that when Taylor comes home to find you on the couch, noticing that nothing got done, presented Taylor the idea you were just lazy and lounged around all day, nothing getting done but breaking your promise. Of course you wouldn't blame Taylor for thinking that way, you didn't want Taylor to think of that being the case, so you decided to send a text to inform and prepare her to come home to a messy house.

As a way to make up for it, you decided to order takeout from Taylor's favorite restaurant to have when she got home.

By the time Taylor did get home, you were unaware that she had yet to read the text you had sent her hours earlier, so you thought everything would be okay and allowed yourself to get some rest so that your well enough to at least eat by Taylor's side. Not knowing she hadn't seen your text, your worst fear started to unravel when Taylor walks into the kitchen only to see it's exactly where she's left it while she called your name. When you don't respond, Taylor groans in frustration and goes in search for you. Taylor finds you still asleep on the couch, and that didn't make things any better. Today  didn't go in the way Taylor would have liked, so she basically had come home from a rather rough day, being a little criticized by those she worked with and this was the last thing she needed to come to.

Taylor was trying to figure out the best way to wake up from your slumber. But she doesn't have to, as you begin to stir awake and spot her through half open eyes, a smile in greeting, a rather weak one to be exact.

"Taylor! You're home!"

You were thrilled to have Taylor home at last, having been looking forward to eating her favorite foods together. But her own greeting, took you by complete off guard, as you were still wrapped in a thin blanket, trying to keep warm.

"Why do you always have to be so lazy?" she snapped, her voice cutting through the room like a machete.

Unaware of your condition, Taylor failed to see the paleness in your face as you struggled to sit up.

You tried to explain that you weren't just idly lounging, but the words caught in your throat. Taylor consumed by her own frustrations, stormed away without a second glance. Little did she know that you were battling a fever, each movement a Herculean effort. With her being treated the ways she that way by those she worked with, lead her to allow feelings to lash out on you like that. It stung, it hurt, you were sick and you felt like she didn't care. You understand if she's had a bad day, but you couldn't help the way you feel after her unexpected outburst on you. It was a little scary as you crawled back under the thin blanket and shivered for who knows how long. That's how your part of the evening was spent, without Taylor just you alone and that was the worst way possible to spend an evening when the two of you are home.

As the evening wore on, your health deteriorated. When Taylor finally returned, her earlier words echoed in her mind as she found you shivering under the covers. Guilt washed over her like a wave. She had let her anger blind her to your well-being. Silently, Taylor fetched a blanket and draped it over you, her demeanor softened.

"I didn't know," she admitted quietly, remorse tainting her usually stern expression. Realizing the gravity of her mistake, she vowed to take care of you during your recovery.

In the following days, Taylor transformed into an unexpected caretaker. She prepared soothing teas, offered comforting words, and stayed by your side. Gone was the harshness, replaced by a gentle concern that surprised even her. To make amends, Taylor went above and beyond, spoiling you with small gestures of affection. She brought your favorite meals, fetched anything you needed, and even attempted to tell lighthearted jokes to lift your spirits.

"Why did the ghost ride the elevator?"

"I don't know, you tell me." you mused.

"To life his spirits."

Despite the initial tension, the experience brought you closer. Taylor's genuine care and effort to make amends revealed a side of her seldom seen. As you recovered, she continued to be attentive, ensuring you felt cherished and valued.

You appreciated that more than words can describe.

After recovering, you both become closer than ever before. That's all you've ever wanted.

To be with the woman you love.
