How do you fail study hall?" Dad asked incredulously.

"Easy, you don't show up." I chuckled.

The both of us were sitting downstairs eating breakfast while Bella was upstairs getting dressed for school. I had just finished explaining to Dad how easy it is to fail your classes and he sighed in disbelief every time I explained it to him.

"Good morning." Bella smiled shyly at us as she walked into our small kitchen. She had a certain glow about her and I narrowed my eyes at her and she shifted nervously under my glare.

"Well aren't you chipper this morning," Dad commented.

"It's Friday." She shrugged and played with the zipper on her sweater. She picked up her bag from the floor when we heard a car pull up. "Well, that's, uh, Jessica. Gotta go." She smiled nervously. I raised my eyebrows at her and she gave me a small smile.

"Have a good day." I winked at her. She gave me a pointed look and I chuckled.

"Let me know how it goes at your doctor's appointment." I nodded and she left the house. I watched through the foggy window as she practically skipped to Edward's car. I shook my head and looked back at Dad who seemed completely oblivious as to what is going on with his oldest daughter.

"You ready?" Dad asked, finishing the last of his coffee. I nodded and stood up to put our empty plates in the sink. He stood up also and slipped his jacket on over his police uniform. While he was dressed for work, I was dressed for comfort.

I adjusted the tie on the waistband of my cropped grey sweats and slipped on my black hoodie over my tank top as I followed him out of the house. After he locked the door, we walked side by side to his police cruiser and quietly entered the surprisingly roomy car.

Car rides with Dad were my favorite. They were silent, which allowed me to be able to be consumed by my thoughts. The only noise in the car was the classic rock music that played softly in the background. Another reason why they were my favorite: the music. Dad and I had similar tastes in music. We both preferred the sounds of the guitars and the drums over some silly poppy beat that was in most music today.

"I love this song!" I squealed and turned the music louder as Bob Seger's Old Time Rock & Roll came on. Dad and I belted out the lyrics and had a mini father-daughter jam session as we rode to the hospital.

By the time we reached the hospital, our jam session had come to an end. We both exited the car with smiles on our faces as the lyrics were still fresh in our minds. We walked side by side into the hospital and I quickly went to find a place to sit in the waiting room while Dad went to sign me in.

"Bella said for you to answer your phone," Dad said as he sat beside me.

"I left it at home. The battery died because I forgot to charge it last night," I told him as I stared at the small tv mounted in the corner of the room on the ceiling. It was on a cartoon channel and Bugs Bunny was playing.

"Clarissa Swan." We both glanced up as we heard my name being called. I stood up and walked to the nurse as Dad followed behind me. It was a quiet walk, the only noise being heard was from my black converse and Dad's boots tapping against the floor. She stopped at a room and opened the door before ushering us in. "The doctor will be here in a moment." Dad and I nodded, both of us getting comfortable.

I slid my shoes off and piled my hair messily on top of my head and secured it with a hair tie before I sat beside Dad on one of the chairs.

"You do know that you can lay on that bed thing, right?" He chuckled as I snuggled into his side and rested my head on his shoulder.
