chapter twelve

i buried my face into billies arm. i became so taut. i couldn't even control what i was doing.

"shh," she calmed me. "i'm gonna go check what's up stay right here," she said before kissing my forehead.

"no billie!" i yelled.

"i'll be right back," she said before letting go of my hand and walking away.

i heard more and more screams. i just buried my face into my knees. i had never been more terrified.

"what the fuck are you doing?" i heard billie yell.

'she's gonna be okay' i thought. i just rocked back and fourth. i was shaking so badly.

"billie get out of here!" i heard elijah shriek.

i ran over there. i didn't care if i got hurt. she needed to be okay.

"you fucking scared my girlfriend to death you bozo!" she yelled at a guy.

he was super drunk. then i heard another gun shot.

next thing i knew, i was on the floor bleeding out of my leg.

i was in total shock. i had no clue what to do.

"call the police!" i heard issac scream.

everyone had ran outside at this point except for us four.

she grabbed her phone and dialed 911.

"my girlfriend just got shot in the leg at this party!" she yelled frantically.

she hung up the phone and bent down next to me.

"it's gonna be okay," i heard her say.

she told me she would keep me safe. she lied.

everything went black.

i woke up in a hospital room. the only sounds were billie sniffling and the monitor's beeping.

"y/n you're away thank god," she said surprised.

"w-what happened?" i stuttered.

"y-you got shot," she cried.

she moved her chair closer to hold my hand.

"you said i would be okay," i went on.

"i know mamas i'm so so sorry," she apologized.

"you told me you'd keep me safe," i said sort of angrily.

"i know, and i feel so bad baby," she cried again.

i pulled my hand out of her grasp. she looked so hurt and distraught. i knew i was overreacting, but i was just in shambles. i needed my mom.

"can you please just get my mom in here?" i asked frustratedly.

"yeah sure," she said sadly.

i felt bad. but she did say she would keep me safe.

"hey babe," i heard my mom say.

billie went outside and my mom sat in the chair.

"she told me i'd be okay," i said before letting out a loud sob.

"i know baby, but billie feels really bad. i promise she never wanted anything to hurt you," she said worried.

"momma i just need some time from her for a bit," i said.

"okay," she said before getting up.

she opened the door and i heard billie talking to finneas.

"she's so mad at me and i feel so bad," she said before letting out a sob.

"she just needs time to realize what happened, i promise," i heard finneas replied.

then the door shut.
