During the day, Veniko was a relatively safe place to live, but once it darkened, monsters crept out of the shadows, and tragedy struck. Evan had witnessed firsthand how cruel the night could be as he gazed over at his mate who was trying hard not to roll his eyes at the nurse who fussed over him. He couldn't help but smile endearingly at the goth who gave him an exasperated look, Midnight wasn't a fan of having someone mother him. Evan had tried multiple times and every time he had his ear pulled.

After last night when Midnight confessed he had loved Evan, their relationship seemed to have grown closer, and at the memory of it, the blonde couldn't help but smile happily, a little bit of light in the darkness. His mate still had nightmares, and the sadness seemed to never leave him be, but in time he would heal.

Evan had been selective in what he told Midnight, especially about what the woman, who he later found out was a völva (a seer of sorts from Norse mythology), had told him. He did tell him about Corvus though not about what he said about Tobias. Evan wasn't ready to have that conversation because then it would mean having to confront his Alpha which he was still currently avoiding. Midnight knew that Evan was keeping things from him but didn't confront him about it though the blonde suspected he would eventually and was giving him time to sort out his thoughts. Tempest had texted Evan earlier in the morning that Obsidian had attacked three different Churches in Alieke that was three hours away from Rikone, killing all the hunters and burning the buildings to the ground. He was making his way to Rikone, and with each town he passed through, he would create absolute chaos. Evan had told Midnight, this wasn't something he could hide from him, and he texted the news to Kabira before putting his phone on silent once more, ignoring all the missed phone calls and text messages.

"Everything looks good. The doctor will come by later to check on you again, but let me know if you need anything." The nurse nodded at them before leaving, and Midnight let out a sigh of relief as he leaned back against the pillows.

"Remind me again why you haven't fully healed me so I can get out of this place?"

Evan snickered. "Because normal people don't magically heal wounds that would take months to recover from in less than three minutes. Besides, how would you explain to the medical professionals, which includes my uncle, your magically healed wounds?"
